Brayden joins the Final Fantasy Union team

Written by Brayden — 20 Dec 2016

Hey, I'm Brayden and I'm excited to announce I've joined the Final Fantasy Union team as a News Writer!

I've been friends with Darryl and Lauren for about a year now after finding the Final Fantasy Union podcast. Just recently Darryl offered me the chance to join the team and I took it up.

I've got quite a bit of experience covering Square Enix video games. I worked at from July 2010 to November 2015 on their News Team as well as Archives Team Leader and on the Social Media Team and even as a Moderator for awhile. This year I was also lucky enough to get an internship at Siliconera as a Reporter.

When did I get into Final Fantasy? It was 2010, I was a big Kingdom Hearts fan and decided to buy Final Fantasy X for the PS2. At the time all I knew about it was characters from this game appeared in Kingdom Hearts and Tetsuya Nomura was the character designer. Final Fantasy X took me awhile to finish, I even restarted it at one point, this is was largely due to it being the first RPG of this type I had ever played. I was blown away by the story, characters, gameplay, music, world and more. I loved it.

I soon moved onto Final Fantasy X-2. Final Fantasy X-2 was very different but I enjoyed the dramatic tone change. I loved going around to all these familiar locations seeing how they had changed, and meeting old friends. Focusing on just Yuna, Rikku and Paine was also great. The battle system was superb and the story a lot of fun.

Next came Final Fantasy XIII, all I knew going in was that it was made by the same team who made Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. It was the most beautiful game I had ever seen at that point. The story was dramatic and extremely enjoyable to me and the battle system maybe even better than X-2's.

Of course up next was Final Fantasy XIII-2, once again vastly different to Final Fantasy XIII but that's a good thing, changing things up is always important I feel. Going through time and various locations at ease was a lot of fun and that ending. Dam.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII was the first Final Fantasy game I ever pre-ordered. My first time through I got to the end but couldn't defeat the final boss. I was of course frustrated but the game thankfully has the option to start over and through this I was able to do everything again and this time I was able to appreciate and even love all aspects of gameplay. Lightning Returns would also open me up to open-world games. I would never have played something like Sleeping Dogs without it.

Since then I've loved Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings and also quite enjoyed other games like Final Fantasy IV, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Mobius Final Fantasy and more.

Anyone who knows me will also know I became a big fan of the team behind the Final Fantasy X & XIII series in 2014 which led to me making my very own website dedicated to them.

And while I've been eagerly awaiting the return of Motomu Toriyama, my favourite video game developer, I was lucky enough to receive a signed card from the man himself.

If you've managed to read all of this, thanks. I'm excited to start writing the latest Final Fantasy news for Final Fantasy Union. Praise be to Yevon. Happy holidays!
