5 years on, the Final Fantasy XI team cannot comment on FFXI Mobile

Final Fantasy XI Mobile was announced by Square Enix just over 5 years ago now, and since then we've heard and seen very little.

The head of Square Enix's Creative Business Unit III (which houses Final Fantasy XI), Naoki Yoshida has made a few comments in interviews while developer Nexon released a few screenshots on their official website but other than that it's been silence.

Gamer Escape recently asked Final Fantasy XI producer Akihiko Matsui and director Yoji Fujito how it was progressing and when we might hear more about it they bluntly answered:

As this is a joint project with NEXON, the FINAL FANTASY XI team is unable to provide an answer to this question at present.

In addition they also asked if there had been any discussions about the preservation of Final Fantasy XI in the tragic event the game is shut down one day.

They also responded bluntly here too: We have nothing to comment on at present.

It's honestly no surprise they had nothing to say on either front but it's not going to help any one wondering or worrying about either.
