Square Enix has announced at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2016 in Tokyo, Japan that Final Fantasy XIV's second major expansion, Stormblood is scheduled to be released worldwide on June 20, 2017 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC & Mac.

Included in the expansion will be a brand new 24 man raid called "Return to Ivalice", it will be written by Yasumi Matsuno, the creator of Ivalice, and director of Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story and originally Final Fantasy XII. This marks his first time working with Square Enix since the remake of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together for the PSP.

Matsuno has been a well known fan of Final Fantasy XIV and was seen with Naoki Yoshida, the producer & director of Final Fantasy XIV last year seemingly working on something together so this is no real surprise but still very cool for Ivalice fans.

Long-time Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu also appeared via a video message. He announced that he is composing Stormblood's main theme.

Lastly, they also announced the Red Mage job class, the ability to swim in certain areas, a new beast tribe called Ananta, a new primal called Lakshmi, the Lady of Bliss and a new raid called The Bend of Time – Omega will all be included in the expansion as well.
