Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV CGI Feature Film Announced

Written by Lauren — 31 Mar 2016

One of the biggest surprises at Uncovered Final Fantasy XV had to be the announcement of Square Enix's latest full feature CGI film, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.

The film was announced with a stellar trailer and some cast interviews with Game of Thrones' Lena Headey (Lunafreya) and Sean Bean (King Regis), and Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul (Nyx Ulric). Each of the cast members had individual bits on stage and talked a tad about the recording process along with their interest in the series. Lena for example stated that she has already finished recording, but Aaron Paul stated that he only just started and he's really impressed by what he's seen so far.

It will be directed by Advent Children director Takeshi Nozue and will revolve around the game's main character Nyx Ulric, one of the King's glaives. Although the film takes place around the events of Final Fantasy XV, it doesn't seem like it'll feature much about Noctis, but will instead focus on Nyx, King Regis, and Lunafreya and their stand against the key baddies of the Niflheim empire.

In the trailer, you can also see Iedolas (head of the Niflheim empire) Glauca, and Ardyn who were featured in the last Active Time Report.

The voice actors for these roles have yet to be announced, but hopefully we'll get more information in the near future. Some of the scenes featured in the trailer are similar to the scenes featured in the E3 2013 Final Fantasy XV announcement trailer. You can check this out below:

Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV is being produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Square Enix and will release sometime this year. It has been announced that there will not be a theatrical release in the west, but it will be available for stream and download as well as being available on Bluray.

A tweet went up earlier on to suggest that the film will be at the Shanghai International Film Festival which starts on June 11th, but this is unconfirmed at the moment.
