Lightning Returns Dev Team Talks About Challenges During Development

With Lightning's 80+ costumes in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, it's only natural that there would be hiccups. In a recent interview with Dengeki Online, the LR dev team talked about the difficulties in developing the game and all the little details they had to focus on.

First, Lightning's underwear. Lightning has quite a few outfits that are a bit revealing. Mix that with an affinity for doing somersaults in the air, Lightning had quite a few wardrobe malfunctions that needed some special attention. Apparently Lightning's Miqu'te outfit proved particularly difficult as her skirt refused to stay down.

Second, the dev team focused quite a bit on Lightning's weapons. There are some cutscenes where Lightning points her weapons at people and since there are a ton of weapons to choose from that are many different sizes, the dev team had to adjust the scene to account for every type of weapon Lightning may be holding at any particular moment. This is a common problem that games with customizable weapons have and often lead to hilarious results with characters stabbing other NPCs unintentionally.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is out Thursday, 21st November, in Japan and 11th February 2013 in NA and 14th February in Europe. Also if you're an adventurer on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, be sure to take part in the Lightning FATE which is running from now until December.
