Yoichi Wada Demoted To... Chairman of the Board??

Today, we have to give you guys some potentially bad news. I know many of you were quite happy when it was announced a few months ago that Yoichi Wada would be stepping down as President and CEO of Square Enix after more than a decade in charge... but his new position isn't quite what anyone expected.

Following the official promotion of Yosuke Matsuda to President and Representative Director, Yoichi Wada will now take a new place as the Chairman of the Board.

To quote Wikipedia. "The Chairman is the highest officer of an organized group such as a board committee, or deliberative assembly. The chairman presides over meetings of the assembled group and conducts its business in an orderly fashion. When the group is not in session, the officer's duties often include acting as its head, its representative to the outside world and its spokesperson."

This is rather odd considering Square Enix said he wouldn't be reappointed to the Board of Directors. So not only is he still part of the Board, he's the Chairman of it.

Quite how much power Wada will still wield remains to be seen. According to some Japanese publications, it's a common show of grace to demote someone so senior to another high position, before fading them out of the company over time.
