Character Spotlight: Lightning

Character Spotlight: Lightning

The final character spotlight of the week is here, and it's on one of the most important characters of Final Fantasy XIII-2: Lightning.

Three years ago, Lightning led the l'Cie in a battle against their fates, effectively halting the destruction of Cocoon and saving its inhabitants. As seen in the New Adventures trailer, a paradox occurs, opening a rift in spacetime which pulls Lightning into the Historia Crux and out of history, leaving everyone to believe that she was either dead or holding up Cocoon with Fang and Vanille.

In reality, Lightning now guards the goddess Etro's legacy, standing watch over all time in Valhalla. She dons a new suit of armour and wields a shield and blade, both etched with Etro script. She is seen doing battle with Caius Ballad in the intro cinematic and wields immense power, not only commanding an army of monsters, but a number of Eidolons as well, including Odin and Shiva.

Lightning was originally a very cold person, never letting her emotions show and always coming across as regimental and disciplined. When she first met Snow, she immediately disliked his flippant attitude and didn't approve of him being with Serah. On multiple occasions, she would try to handle everything by herself. Since the events of FFXIII, however, Lightning has become more open and is able to trust in others when she needs help.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see what role she plays in Final Fantasy XIII-2, which is out on PS3 and Xbox 360 next week on January 31 in North America and February 3 in Europe.
