Casual Final Fantasy Cosplay: Yuna (Final Fantasy X)

Written by Lauren — 08 Aug 2015

Welcome all to another edition of Casual Final Fantasy Cosplay where I search the internet in an effort to create fashionable casual cosplay ensembles that work for specific Final Fantasy characters.

Last week, we explored one of my favorite heroes of the series, Squall Leonhart, and this week we're going to look at how to put together an ensemble for a "Yuna-esque" casual cosplay.

Yuna's style in Final Fantasy X looks almost like a kimono of sorts. Granted, a very revealing kimono as she has her shoulders and back out. Yuna wears a wrapped halter up top and then has a beautiful bow in the center with a gorgeous flowing purple skirt on the bottom. Her sleeves are also very elegant with a nice little gradient of white to pink.

This isn't really something that you'd see people wear around town though, which makes my task that much harder as I need to stick to Yuna's style without making it stand out too much.

Michelle Viscose Maxi Skirt - $14.00
My first challenge was the skirt. I really needed a maxi skirt for this type of thing. I knew I wouldn't find one with the cute flower details that Yuna has, but I definitely think this skirt is the closest we're going to get to Yuna's. It even has a slit up the side which is similar to Yuna's.

At first I thought maybe a nice cropped top would work but being that I had to work a belt into the equation, I decided instead to opt for a body suit. Body suits are great as they don't leave seams like regular shirts do and considering the fabric of the skirt, anything we tuck underneath it would definitely show up. This body suit is really adorable as it has a really flouncy look to it that balances out the tightness of the bottom.

Yuna Earrings - $15.00
Yuna has that one annoying earring that just sticks out. Granted it's good for her look, but let's be honest, there aren't many people walking around with a huge beaded earring peeking out of their hair. As a simple elegant alternative, I found these adorable beaded Yuna-inspired earrings by Soul String Jewelry on etsy that offer just enough elegance to pass as something that Yuna would wear. Not to mention, they'd look good with a lot of different outfits so you can definitely incorporate it into your everyday style.

Nyfashion101 Women's Basic Faux Leather Dressy Belt - $5.99
Obis are not particularly easy to come by in the west. This is one of those items that if you were cosplaying Yuna, you'd probably have to make from scratch. So with regards to casual cosplay, I thought a simple yellow belt would be best. It'll help bring the skirt and the bodysuit together and offer just the right amount of color.

Top Moda Women's COCO 1 Knee High Riding Boot - $39.99
Here we are with the boots again. Granted Yuna's boots aren't brown, they're black, but I thought brown would be a softer tone for this ensemble. They definitely shouldn't be competing with the belt as the statement piece and I just felt like a black boot would be too harsh a color. I love the look of these boots and being that they're only about $40, it's a pretty reasonable buy. You can never have too many pairs of boots.

Costume Total: $98.99
UK TOTAL: £58.91

Managed to stay just within the $100 mark this edition which I think is commendable. You can, of course, add any bits that you see fit for this ensemble whether it be some type of sleeves or jewelry. Either way, you'll definitely give off the appearance of Yuna without giving yourself away as a cosplayer on the train to the convention!

Next week we'll be focusing on another male character from the series. He's a bit of a thief this one, but he prefers "treasure hunter".
