Welcome all to another edition of Causal Final Fantasy Cosplay where I scout the internet for items of clothing that would suit individual characters within the series.
Last week, we covered Garnet from Final Fantasy IX and this week we'll be diving into one of my favorite protagonists in the Final Fantasy series, Squall Leonhart.
So with Squall, you'd think, wow, that's simple. Yea, it's simple if you have cash to burn. Squall unfortunately wears mostly what looks like leather and leather/pleather are not cheap. For jackets alone you're looking at spending anywhere from $50 - $1,000+, but I like a challenge and as long as you guys can accept the slight changes here and there, we should have a very successful Casual Final Fantasy Cosplay for Squall Leonhart.
ASOS Faux Leather Biker Jacket - $27.00
This jacket is currently on sale, so I'd definitely hop on it if you're considering doing this soon. At first I was looking for a jacket with an attached sweatshirt hood as I thought that would be good alternative more casual looking option for Squall's furry topped leather jacket. However, I was not successful. But you definitely can add a white/light grey hoodie under this jacket to recreate this if you have any lying around. Otherwise, this is probably the cheapest good looking pleather jacket that I've found.
Biker Jacket - £15.07
Men's Twill Skinny Pants - Crash - $14.98
I have a bit of a pet peeve with matching jackets/trousers. I don't like denim on denim and I especially don't like leather on leather so when it came to Squall's ensemble, I decided it'd be best to go with some black skinny jeans instead. Also, you'll thank me when you're not dying of heat stroke at the con. Leather does not breathe well at all so when you're trudging through a hot sweaty con crowd, it's really the last thing you want to be wearing head to toe.
New Look Skinny Jeans - £19.99
MM Men's Cotton Military Style Belt Brown - $3.99
These types of belts are so great for when you don't really want to go leather. They're always really strong and of course offer a bunch of holes so they suit lots of sizes.
Men's Leather Belt by Forest - £6.59
Final Fantasy VIII: Squall's Griever Necklace - $4.30
This is probably the most identifiable piece in Squall's outfit. His griever necklace is so recognizable and thankfully you can get it for really super cheap. I mean, $4.30 is a steal and it will really help pull together your whole ensemble.
Final Fantasy VIII: Squall's Griever Necklace - £5.48
Men's Merona Elbert Loafers - $29.74
Dang Nomura and his boots. To be fair, boots are awesome, however they're so freaking expensive which is not ideal if you're shopping on a budget. The nice thing about Squall's outfit is that you can't really see the whole boot which is why I've chosen these loafers. They give off the appearance of being leathery, but don't cost nearly as much as boots do. Plus they'll make great dress shoes so it's a win-win!
Black Leather Style Formal Ankle Boots - £14.19
Stretch T-shirt - $9.99
This is, of course, one of the essential items that you need to have for a successful Squall cosplay; a v-neck t-shirt. This is just your typical white v-neck shirt which you can get in most stores. Some Squall designs have it plunging a lot lower than others, but generally any white v-neck t-shirt should do the trick!
Stretch T-shirt - £7.99
Costume Total: $90
UK TOTAL: £69.31
I think this might actually be our cheapest Casual Final Fantasy Cosplay of all the ones we've done so far! Which is surprising considering all that leather. Granted, you're welcome to add more belts should you wish and add a white hoodie as I suggested underneath the jacket. There's also the black gloves, but they aren't really essential to this look.
That's it for this week's Casual Final Fantasy Cosplay! I hope you enjoyed it and that you'll check in for next week! To give you a small hint, she's full of determination and seems to have a thing for jocks. Who could she be?
