Square Enix Entering Cloud Gaming Via Project Flare

by Fozzie

Square Enix has revealed plans to enter into the cloud gaming sphere through Project Flare, a "technological breakthrough in cloud gaming".

Project Flare plans to offer the power of a supercomputer to people all over the world. They'll run a bit like OnLive and Gaikai sending a live-streaming video feed to players. Unlike OnLive, which needed multiple servers to run games for different platforms, Square Enix will be building games for the cloud.

There's already been a couple of demos released like this one of Deus Ex: Human Revolution where, through using Project Cloud, Square Enix has been able to enhance the physics processing.

It's still in an early stage of development but they're definitely hoping to attract some attention which should be simple with Ubisoft already interested. Perhaps then more and more people can experience Square Enix titles like Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn without needing a major hardware update.
