Final Fantasy XIII has been out for less than a week, but Square Enix are already talking about a possible sequel for the title - and yes, by sequel, we mean direct sequel.
Speaking with a Dutch publication, Kitase said "In the past three years we worked both on the world and on the various systems. Creating these systems isn't very glamorous and can frankly be a bit boring. If we could do a XIII-2, we could direct all our attention to the story and refine what we have already built."
For a company that likes to keep information very tight-lipped, recently, Kitase really isn't doing much to stop rumours starting up.

A recent translation from an interview with Toriyama and Kitase from ffdream.com
Q) Will there be a Final Fantasy XIII-2?
"It depends on the success of the game in the West! If we can do FFXIII-2, we would direct our attention on the games history and refine what has already been done.
Sounds to me like my prediction of a prequel might be right ;) Prequels are good IMO. Square can do those pretty well.

Like Kyle said on....Episode 12? of the FXN podcast, "Facepalm is not painful enough to justify this!" That's how I feel about this. SE needs to focus on completing their current projects before they even consider a XIII-2.

Actually his ALL-CAPS alert stopped me from reading it 8D
I guess I scrolled too fast and saw that first, lol. *runs away from spoilers*
I haven't played FFXIII yet, so I don't know if it warrants a sequel or not. If they can pull it off and the game is good, then why not? But like I said previously, GIMME VERSUS AND AGITO FIRST!!! xD

^ You highlighting that fact, makes it even more spoiler-some. :p
I think there are tonnes of ways that there *could* be a FFXIII sequel, but that doesn't mean that there should be one. :p

Rainie: i dont want xiii-2...i want versus :(
even if they did a xiii-2, what would the story be about? I dont really see much they could expand on...unless it was something like Snow and Serah's wedding being interrupted by some unknown terror, the groom gets kidnapped by the baddies and now is Serah's turn to be the hero! :O though i dont really know how she'd fight, she seems really fragile to me, almost like she could snap in half if the wind blew too hard....
PLEASE BE CAREFUL! That was dangerously close to a spoiler...

Shame....

Oh boy, as long as FFXIII doesn't spawn countless sequels and prequels like FFVII. Seriously $quare I want my Versus and Agito, is that so hard? But I havent played FFXIII yet so I cant really judge wether it is worthy of a sequel

thefenrir: Release vsXIII and Agito first please...they can worry about a sequel when they get their current projects out of the way.
that is true

Although I really enjoy playing FF XIII... a sequel? really? In the same linear world? I would rather they just move on to the next one. If it was a prequel, maybe. But Square-Enix haven't had any decent sequels, ever.

I would much rather they started on FF XV. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love XIII, but I have to be honest, it isn't what it should be. I think if they made XV with the Crystal Tools engine and some more traditional FF themes, it would be awesome. I'd much rather they started on that straightaway rather than mulling over a sequel to a game which is only really great for its battle system and visuals, not its story or gameplay.
And of course, there is Versus and Agito to be concentrati...ng on in the meantime... XIII-2 gets a thumbs down from me.

If they have time to make a FFXIII sequel, they most definitely have time to work on an FFVII remake. Personally I would love either one, as long as they're good. I don't believe their gripe about towns either, FF fans are notorious for waiting for their games, a little more time won't hurt us...much. Towns were the best parts of any FF game, the exploring, meeting different people, mini-games and sidequests. I would love to see all that return :)

LMFAO. That's all I have to say.
Really, Squenix? REALLY?!

Eskimo Keith: Anything to stop people going on about an FFVII remake no doubt.
Haha, yes.
