Dissidia Downloadable Content A Possibility?
(Posted: 28/09/2008) by Ronin90
Square Enix have announced that Dissidia: Final Fantasy will have a roster of only 20 characters, which will be comprised of two from each game in the series between Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy X. Each game will only have one protagonist and one antagonist present, which could leave some fans feeling a little bit peeved, as some games had more than one solid candidate for inclusion.
It is well publicised that Square Enix initially wanted to put Seymour in as the Final Fantasy X villain, but had to put in Jecht due to his ties with Tidus. Had Seymour Guado been included, the presence of Yuna would have been required. But wouldn't it be great if they gave fans some degree of choice?

New Dissidia Gameplay Footage: Warrior of Light vs Garland
(Posted: 26/09/2008) by Ronin90
Some new video footage has been released by Square Enix which shows a full battle between Garland and the Warrior of Light. Both first appeared in Final Fantasy I, so it's only fair that they should be seen duelling off in this Dissidia gameplay video.

Final Fantasy VII Franchise Character Profiles Complete
(Posted: 25/09/2008) by Ronin90
The site hasn't even been open a month yet, but we've already managed to complete a massive chunk of the Final Fantasy Union Character Database as the whole Final Fantasy VII franchise is now covered, which spans a massive 100 characters!
The next port of call with regards to that will be Final Fantasy XIII characters and Dissidia: Final Fantasy characters. While those profiles will mainly just be theorising, you can guarantee that they'll be as informative as you'll find anywhere else.
That's all for now, I hope you all keep enjoying the website.

Xbox Japan Confirm Final Fantasy XIII's Absense In Japan
(Posted: 24/09/2008) by Ronin90
In a recent interview, head of Xbox Japan Takashi Sensui confirmed what Square Enix have already stated and disclosed that there are currently no plans to release Final Fantasy XIII in Japan on the Xbox 360.
What's comical is that he claimed that Xbox Japan have no plans to release it, making it sound like it's actually their decision to do so and not Square Enix's.
Either way, they must still be very disappointed that they will be missing out, as recent RPG releases have helped to bolster sales in a region which has otherwise shown Microsoft no love at all.

Surely Cloud Strife Has To Be In Dissidia?
(Posted: 21/09/2008) by Ronin90
Weekly Musings is something that I'm sure will be quite unique to Final Fantasy Union, as (hopefully) every week I will post random thoughts about events surrounding Final Fantasy. These could be related to modern affairs, or just things that happen to crop into my mind.
Either way, I hope you enjoy the article and if you do, remember to subscribe to the RSS Feed and check back next week for more Weekly Musings!
So, the topic of this first edition is Dissidia's character roster. Currently 17 characters have been announced for Dissidia, with all of the villains being named and seven of heroes having been announced. It's heavily speculated that Bartz will fill the Final Fantasy V spot and Terra will fill the Final Fantasy VI spot. However, something that's probably most surprising is that while Sephiroth was announced some time ago as the character who will occupy the Final Fantasy VII villain spot, the hero still remains a secret, even with the game only a few months off.

Limited Edition Dissidia PSP Bundle Will Be...Limited
(Posted: 19/09/2008) by Ronin90
It was announced a while back that Sony would be releasing an exclusive Final Fantasy Dissidia Limited Edition PSP-3000 bundle, but new information has surfaced about its availability on the official Square Enix Japanese store.
The official name of the bundle is Dissidia Final Fantasy -Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary Limited and they really aren't lying with the name. Unlike the Crisis Core Limited Edition PSP which had a numerical cap of 77,777 units, the Dissidia Limited Edition PSP will have a time cap.
Pre-Orders will start on the 22nd of September at 13:00 (presumably Japanese time) and will end on the 28th of September at one minute before Midnight. However, you can only pre-order if you are a Square Enix member and even then it's a lottery as to whether your pre-order will be accepted. People who were successful in their pre-ordering will be informed the week after.
So essentially, unless you're fortunate, you aren't getting a Limited Edition Dissidia PSP bundle....well not straight away at least.

New Dissidia Characters: Golbez and Cecil Revealed
(Posted: 11/09/2008) by Ronin90
You can't really keep things secret on the internet anymore, as some scans from next week's Shonen Jump magazine in Japan have been leaked onto the internet. They confirm what many people theorised about after the release of last week's new Dissidia trailer and that is the addition of both Cecil and Golbez to the character roster.

More news on the scan after the jump.

TGS 2008: Final Fantasy Line-Up Unveiled
(Posted: 08/09/2008) by Ronin90
The 2008 edition of the Tokyo Game Show is almost upon us and Square Enix have seen fit to announce which games they will be showcasing at the event. They will actually be showing a total of 32 games, but only 7 of them are related to the Final Fantasy brand.
Here is a list of the titles:-
* Final Fantasy XIII (Playstation 3)
* Final Fantasy Versus XIII (Playstation 3)
* Final Fantasy Agito XIII (Playstation Portable)
* Final Fantasy Dissidia (Playstation Portable)
* Final Fantasy XI (Playstation 2, PC, XBox 360)
* Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete (Blu-ray)
* Final Fantasy IV: The After (DS)
It's interesting to note that while Final Fantasy Agito XIII has been updated for the PSP, Final Fantasy XIII has the XBox 360 noticably missing.

Dissidia: New Trailer Confirms 10 Villain Characters?
(Posted: 04/09/2008) by Ronin90
Today, Square Enix released a new promotional video for Final Fantasy Dissidia and it shows some of the newly announced characters in both stunning FMV and in-game footage. However, two of the more interesting points happen at the beginning and towards the end of the video.
While the beginning clearly shows ten characters on the side of good, towards the end as Chaos is emerging from his volcano, the silhouettes of what can be presumed as the villains appear infront of him. What's interesting about this, is that previously only eight villains have been announced, but there are clearly ten silhouettes present. Could this mean that the two remaining villains are from Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy V, or are they going to include characters from Final Fantasy XII?

Tecmo Turn Down Square Enix's Friendly Takeover
(Posted: 04/09/2008) by Ronin90
After last week's rather surprising news that Square Enix were reported to be offering to buy Tecmo for £100m ($200m) in a "friendly" takeover bid, things have taken an even more interesting twist. Square Enix placed a firm deadline of the 4th of September on their offer and Tecmo have responded with their decision.
Their decision is that they have decided to reject the proposal outright and Tecmo president Yasuharu Kakihara claims that he will not be entertaining another bid from Square Enix.

While a prospective time-frame for Final Fantasy Dissidia's release was touted at the recent DKΣ3713 event, Square Enix wouldn't specify anything other than December 2008.
They have now decided to be more specific and announced that Final Fantasy Dissidia will be released in Japan on the 18th of December, just in time for Christmas. Square Enix have also announced that the game will retail for ¥6,090.
On top of this news, a bundle has also been announced which will include the new PSP3000 and Final Fantasy Dissidia for a modest ¥25,890 and this is scheduled for release at the same time.

(Posted: 01/09/2008) by Ronin90
Up until recently, there has been very little video content out there for Final Fantasy Dissidia, with there only being two official trailers released. However, Square Enix have decided to change this and with the game due to be released towards the end of the year, it looks like hype is starting to build for this eagerly anticipated title.

Final Fantasy Union Launched
(Posted: 01/09/2008) by Ronin90
Final Fantasy Union has been in production for about a month and it signals a new approach for the Square Union, which will now start to segment a little bit more. Hopefully the improvements with the site are there for all to see and if not, maybe you should take a look around and enjoy!
The purpose of this move is to be more franchise focussed and because of this, Final Fantasy Union will only focus on all things Final Fantasy. Square Union will now focus on everything Square Enix related that isn't to do with Final Fantasy.
