Rumour: FF13 On PS3 Has No Install, 1080p FMV, Lossless Audio

Rumour: FF13 On PS3 Has No Install, 1080p FMV, Lossless Audio

There were fears that the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIII may be hindered following Square Enix's statement about there being equality between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

However, according to a leaked image of the Final Fantasy XIII box, the game will feature lossless (uncompressed) audio, and 1080p FMV sequences. There will also be no install, a common theme in most PlayStation 3 titles, with the only HDD usage coming from a 500kb save file.

Definitely interesting news, and for those audio/video-philes, this could tip them towards buying the PlayStation 3 version instead of the Xbox 360 version.

I'm sure you won't be the only one as it has become a standard thing that happens to multiplatform games. There is always a side-by-side comparison video made and posted on gametrailers nowadays.

I wouldn't have 2 t.v's set up, i'd probably just play each version to completion and see if i had a better experience with one or the other.

Well to be honest, even if it was the same as Lost Odyssey in that fashion i will be more than happy, i loved Lost Odyssey.
SD or HD it was definetly a good looking game, but i will be checking out both versions anyway to see for myself which is superior if one of them truly is.

Lost Odyssey was severely compressed and that was on 3-4 discs. In that game, the cutscenes were upscaled SD, nowhere near 720, let alone 1080.

Ahh I would have liked an optional install on the PS3. If there is a lot of loading it could become annoying. God knows how long it took to load matches on Dissidia without the .5GB install.

I mean, yeah it's cool to not have to wait a good 15 mins for an install, but I would rather wait 15 mins out of the 60+ hours i would be playing to have the game run smoother and with quicker loading.

to bad they didnt get a shot of the front of the box -_- or somewhere I missed that.

btw - buying japanese no matter what sooooo... yippeee for 1080p although I can only play 720p. yay for lossless... will it really be heard that distinctly through a 3.5mm jack?

If both versions are supposed to be the same this statement is invalid. The 360 version will most definetly be on more discs but the other aspects would remain the same, if anything the PS3 version will be hindered by slightly longer load times, that's all. But without proof there is no backup for either of our arguements :p

I said that in the news post. SE said they would be the same, but everyone knows the Xbox 360 can't deal with uncompressed things, there just isn't the space, even if it is multiple disc. Lost Odyssey was severely compressed and that was on 3-4 discs. In that game, the cutscenes were upscaled SD, nowhere near 720, let alone 1080.

You all should not forget thats the JP!!! version, not the US/EU version.
So we will see if they keep that for our versions too.
Cause in JP they dont have a 360 version of the game, so they dont have to change anything there
graphicly .

In all fairness though, nobody really likes fanboys, they blindly follow a console/brand without questioning the product/company themselves. There are bound to be people who claim their version is better but i'm gonna enjoy the game no matter what i play it on.
I'm actually tempted to get FFXIII on both consoles just to see if there is a real difference between the two or not.

I'm getting annoyed at the PS3 fanboys going all "lol, X360 version = buggy".

Unless you are a HD grahics/audio whore, this doesn't really mean much. Which is most people, since most don't own the setup needed to take advantage of this.

^^^ According to the back of the box, FFXIII in Japan has full HD FMVs, they may not do that for Xbox to save space... :/ I don't really like to speculate on rumours like this though, I'd rather just wait and see...

Yeah, who knows, i can't really comment either as i favour the 360 more and can't say anything that won't seem a bit like a fanboy rant.
Damn Rumours :p

Pretty good news, especially considering the Xbox 360 version will more than likely be compressed.

Good to know that the PS3 version is not getting the bad end of the stick. Good to see that it will not need a HDD install. I Just hope this is true.
