PS3 Claims 54 Percent Of UK Final Fantasy XIII Sales

Final Fantasy has in recent years been a very PlayStation orientated franchise, but when Square Enix announced it would be coming to the Xbox 360, many were curious as to how it would sell.

Well, we have some information, for the UK at least, where Chart-Track have disclosed that the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIII contributed 54 percent of total sales. Considering the amount of marketing Microsoft has been doing, with the Xbox 360 bundle, and Xbox 360 exclusive TV ads, some might actually see this is something of a failure. However, they have still managed to take a huge chunk out of Sony's profits, so from that perspective it was still a result.

The key market will be North America though, as Xbox 360 multi-platform titles frequently outside their PlayStation 3 counterpart.

Shawn:
I'd be willing to bet the majority of UK buyers don't care that much about 1080p and 5.1 surround sound, which is why about 40% of so chose the "inferior" version.

40% probably didn't have a choice, some people can only afford one console or the other, sure the 'superior' version is on PS3 but not everyone has one.

I'm gonna predict that it'll balance out - 54/46 in favour of Xbox in the US.

Hehe 54% of the US market is a pretty large amount compared to 54% of the UK market.
Even if your prediction is correct, the 360 will still have sold more copies than the PS3 version xD

Again, only 54% for PS3 in the UK... Microsoft did very well for themselves. It kinda makes me think even more about Versus' exclusivity, even though Square has said it countless times now lol.

In the US, I'm expecting a 360 lead over the PS3. Probably 65% on 360 compared to the PS3.
Everyone remembers how well Killzone 2 sold in the US compared to Europe.
Americans like to buy American products.

Still, I though maybe since the PS3 version has higher quality sound and resolution, but...oh well.

Well, the ad campaigns basically made it seem like it wasn't even on PS3, so it was to be expected.

... I was actually expecting the PS3 to have even more of a share in sales. Around the 60-70% mark.
