Cloud Message: New Information Highly Unlikely
(Posted: 30/11/2008) by Ronin90
Final Fantasy XIII news has been slow recently and even though speculation about the famed 'Cloud Message' was initially centered around Final Fantasy VII, it hasn't taken long for fansites to attempt to capitalise on it by regurgitating news and claiming that this book will provide great things. The question is, should we actually care?
The short answer is no. Unlike the newly announced Re: DVD, Cloud Message is purely a book. This means there will be no new trailers and no new news. What will probably be in the book? Artwork, which we've more than likely already seen. Why is it likely that we've seen it anyway? Because the book features ten other topics (nine of which are games) and there is no real need for Square Enix to include something new when they have so much content that they can fill the book up with.

Shantotto's 2nd Costume Unveiled: BLM AF Armour
(Posted: 26/11/2008) by Ronin90
A new scan has been unveiled in the latest edition of Shonen Jump Magazine which shows off some new information about Shantotto's appearance in Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
Not only will she be on the Side of Light, the team lead by Cosmos, she will also be using some staples of Final Fantasy XI's Black Mage class. Not only will she use Artifact Armour, she will also be using Ancient Magic.

Multi-Disc Final Fantasy XIII On 360 Looking Likely
(Posted: 23/11/2008) by Ronin90
Anyone who bought The Last Remnant on Thursday will have noticed one blatantly obvious thing, it comes on two discs. Now, this might not be that concerning to too many people, but it could hint that this could be the way things will be done in the future.
As everyone is now aware, Final Fantasy XIII is being released on the Xbox 360, as part of Square Enix's new "let's make money" strategy. It's more than likely that Final Fantasy XIII will dwarf The Last Remnant in size, and if they couldn't compress that game down, it is likely that they will struggle for Final Fantasy XIII as well. The only thing that might discount this, is that The Last Remnant was developed using an external engine (Unreal 3), whereas Final Fantasy XIII is being developed using Square Enix's own Crystal Tools.

Final Fantasy XI Confirmed For Dissidia
(Posted: 22/11/2008) by Ronin90
You heard rightly, Final Fantasy XI will be represented in Dissidia: Final Fantasy in the form of Shantotto, the impish little Tarutaru from Windurst. It was confirmed at a recent Final Fantasy XI event, and it looks like she will be a playable character.
She will be voiced by Megumi Hayashibara and I think this has just sold the game to a whole new audience. No word yet about who will be appearing opposite her, if anyone will be.
We'll keep you posted if any more secret characters are announced as this opens up a whole new world of possibilities for characters in the game. Maybe we'll see Noctis and Lightning afterall?

Final Fantasy XIII Featured In New Re: DVD
(Posted: 22/11/2008) by Ronin90
Amazon.jp have just listed a new DVD which is being produced by Entertain and will potentially feature some previously unseen media relating to Final Fantasy XIII.
The DVD itself is called Re: as it's a recollection of the DKΣ3713 event which took place earlier in the year and it's called Re: because it's a reply to the event by the developers who attended.
The DVD is said to be approximately 60 minutes long and will feature Final Fantasy artwork and images taken from the world's highest mountain, which have apparently been used to build some of Final Fantasy XIII's virtual landscape.
Some of Square Enix's other titles will also be featured on the video, so if you want to import it, it'll set you back ¥2,625 and it is released on the 13th of December.

Cloud & Sephiroth Dissidia Blowout
(Posted: 19/11/2008) by Ronin90
Last week the first in-game images were released of Cloud and Sephiroth together, but they were quite small and didn't really show much. Now the images are much better and showcase a lot of different things, including where they drew their influences from.

While it was already disclosed, there are now screenshots of Cloud using Ultima Weapon and performing Meteorain. Sephiroth is also using his Super Nova limit break in the screens.

Dissidia's Missing Characters: Spinoffs
(Posted: 17/11/2008) by Ronin90
While probably not as potent as last week's list, there are still some big hitters that have appeared in Final Fantasy Spinoffs who many may feel they would like to see in Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
Unlike last week though, this list will only contain 5 characters, as well, there just haven't been as many original characters in spinoffs as there have been in the main Final Fantasy series.
As these characters don't appear in the main iterations of the Final Fantasy franchise, their inclusion would definitely have to be as bonus material, as they wouldn't be able to replace anyone from the other games.
Anyway, we hope you enjoy the list; hit the jump to view it!

Awesome Dissidia Poster: Good Vs Evil
(Posted: 17/11/2008) by Ronin90
Normally it would take something more substantial to warrant a news post, but this image is what we feel all those Dissidia fans out there have been craving for quite a while; a complete scan with all of the characters in squaring off against each other.

This gem appeared in the recent edition of V Jump Magazine and with the game being released in under a month in Japan, it seems as though hype in the East is getting quite high. Hopefully we'll get release dates for both North America and Europe soon enough.

Cloud Message A Complete False Alarm
(Posted: 17/11/2008) by Ronin90
Last month, there was a picture of Cloud in a magazine with the words 'Coming Soon' underneath his name. Of course, being the wishful thinkers that we are, many thought this signalled one of three things.
1) We could be seeing the announcement of a Final Fantasy VII Remake quite soon.
2) We could be seeing the announcement of the next volume of Cloud DVD
3) We could be seeing the announcement of a new Final Fantasy VII Compilation game.
Well, it turns out it's none of these, as Cloud's Message is actually a new book, yes book. The book is actually going to be called Cloud Message and it will be released on the 10th of December this year. Should you wish to import it, the price is going to be ¥1,575.

Dissidia Will "Last A Lifetime"
(Posted: 15/11/2008) by Ronin90
In a recent interview with the Dissidia: Final Fantasy team, they divulged some information about the game's story and how it will come together. However, the most interesting nugget came when they were asked about the game's lifespan.
Apparently the game is designed in such a way that each story mode can be played multiple times, with new unlockables and options available to the player each time they play through. This in their eyes means that the game could effectively last a player their "entire lifetime".
While we are quite confident that most people probably wouldn't want to play Dissidia for that long, who're we to refute their claims? After all, every single character will have a unique story, which will be intertwined with the other characters in the game. Yes, that means there are effectively 20 different re-inactions of the story and if you want to understand the entire plot, you'll have to play them all.

After Cloud was announced at this year's Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix prohibited the public from seeing imagery of their favourite Final Fantasy character...until now.
Shonen Jump have got a full-page spread featuring both Cloud and Sephiroth, who are Final Fantasy VII's representatives in Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Not only does it showcase the concept art that we released last month, but it also shows the world-first in-game footage of Cloud. Check out the scan below.

New Final Fantasy XIII Info Coming Soon
(Posted: 12/11/2008) by Ronin90
Enterbrain in Japan have announced a few little details about the November edition of Famitsu PS3 magazine (released 14th of November) and they've claimed that there will be a heavy focus on Final Fantasy XIII this issue.
Nothing about the actual content has been disclosed as of yet, but it looks as though the content on Final Fantasy XIII will be very new and it will disclose lots of new features that are set to get fans excited.
Check back in a few days for hopefully a full Final Fantasy XIII media blowout.

Blood Of Bahamut Countdown Goes Live
(Posted: 12/11/2008) by Ronin90
About two months ago, Square Enix registered the trademark 'Blood of Bahamut' and speculation was rife about what exactly this could be. Some speculated that it could be a Bahamut Lagoon remake which could appear on the DS or PSP, while others speculated that it could be the new expansion for Final Fantasy XI. It could also be a completely new title on a next-gen console.
We don't actually have a clue what it's about, but the new website that Square Enix have launched looks very Shadow of the Colossus, and it looks like there will be an announcement made in just under 5 days.
When that countdown hits zero, you can guarantee that we will be there to cover it to the best of our abilities. So check back in 5 days.

Dissidia's Missing Characters: Main Series
(Posted: 09/11/2008) by Ronin90
It's been heavily promoted that Dissidia: Final Fantasy is a celebration of 20 years of Final Fantasy and for that reason, it features the two characters from the first ten iterations of Final Fantasy's main series.
The inclusion of some and exclusion of others has been a definite talking point amongst fans of the series, as some will sorely be missed in the line-up. Others could really stake a claim too, but were excluded anyway, sometimes for not straight-forward reasons.
We've compiled a bit of a wish list of characters we'd like to have seen included from the main franchise, and who knows, they may even appear at some point as downloadable content. It's important to remember that this list also breaks the rules of one antagonist and one protagonist per game.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Sales Continue To Impress
(Posted: 07/11/2008) by Ronin90
Crisis Core is considered by many to be the best title that Square Enix have produced for a while and it's positive to see that unlike The World Ends With You, it has also seen very good sales around the globe.
Square Enix have just released their half-yearly financial report which plots the progress of its games between the 1st of April and the 30th of September. Although Crisis Core was released in both Japan and America before this period, it is still promising to see that it has still sold 620,000 units in this time period.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy To Have Optional Data Install
(Posted: 05/11/2008) by Ronin90
In the latest edition of Famitsu, new information was revealed about Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Specifically about how Square Enix are trying to counteract what appears to be increasing loading times on the Sony PSP.
Although not everyone has the luxury of owning expanded memory cards, those who do will have the option of choosing between 3 different install types. This will greatly increase loading time for the game, but obviously it's up to the player to choose which installation they would like.
The 3 options the player can choose from are 245mb, 373mb and 528mb; with the last option obviously causing the fastest loading times. Note that this is an optional install; so the game will work perfectly fine if your memory stick can't even support these installs.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy Soundtrack Release Date Confirmed
(Posted: 05/11/2008) by Ronin90
A few days ago we mentioned some details that had surfaced as a rumour regarding the Dissidia: Final Fantasy OST. Well, now Sony had addded it to their website for purchase and the release date remains the same.
The 24th of December 2008 is when it will ship, so if you're importing you probably won't see it this side of Christmas. They've also announced that the Limited Edition will be based on quantity, not time. So if you want to make sure you get your Limited Edition copy, make sure you order now.
The CD has the catalog number of SQEX-10132 and will apparantly be two discs, so you'll definitely get value for your money. It also suggests that the OST will actually feature quite a lot of tracks, as Square enix usually try to get about 20-30 tracks on a disc.

The Current State Of Final Fantasy
(Posted: 05/11/2008) by Kyle Wynen
The last we heard of Final Fantasy was at the Tokyo Game Show this past month. The event basically had next to nothing new for Final Fantasy players. Square Enix, the developer of Final Fantasy, on the other hand has decided to jump on the Super Smash Bros. bandwagon that so many other developers have done before. Square Enix's being Dissidia: Final Fantasy, wherein they're pitting the lead characters and villains from the main series against each other in one-on-one battles in yet another off-shoot Final Fantasy title.
This however is not the Final Fantasy most fans are craving for. That would be Final Fantasy XIII, and the wait for it has been a very long and one-sided one for fans. The title was announced over two and a half years ago, and is projected to not hit shelves in North America until this time next year.
It's time to delve into what's going on with Final Fantasy, so hit the jump to read more.
