Let's Help Further Appreciation For Final Fantasy Music!

FFVII by Darryl

Almost anyone who's ever played a Final Fantasy game knows who Nobuo Uematsu is. Hell, almost everyone who's interested in gaming knows who he is.

Yet despite Nobuo Uematsu's compositions being some of the most heralded, and nowadays, some of the most listened to video game music on video websites such as YouTube, he doesn't get much appreciation from the masses. This also applies to the newer composers like Masashi Hamauzu and Naoshi Mizuta.

Blinded by Light, the main battle theme from Final Fantasy XIII has 1.3 million views from a singular fan-uploaded video. And that's just the beginning. The Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children version of One Winged Angel has almost 5.5 million views.

Last year, a campaign was put together to give video game music a rightful place in the realm of classical music - it worked. Aeris' Theme, the main piece for the campaign, ended up coming 16th in the 2012 Classic FM Hall of Fame. The main theme from Skyrim was another entry from the world of video games, ending up in 238th.

This year, Classic FM are again running their Hall of Fame campaign. It sees them select 300 of the greatest classical music pieces and ranks them based on popularity.

To vote, you need to simply head over to http://halloffame.classicfm.com and say which pieces you think are the best. In order for the campaign to work, we ask that you vote for Aerith's Theme as your main vote, and pick two other video game pieces.

To learn more about the overall campaign, you can check out the Facebook Page or follow them on Twitter (@ClassicVGMusic). Here's hoping we can get Aeris' Theme, and perhaps a few others, back into the Hall of Fame for 2013.
