Introducing Final Fantasy XIV Core
Final Fantasy XIV was announced at this year's E3 and it hasn't taken long for fan sites to shoot up everywhere. However, there is one that potentially has a lot more calibre than the typical fan site, Final Fantasy XIV Core.
Run by a former member of Nihilum (now known as Ensidia), the #1 World of Warcraft guild, Final Fantasy XIV Core certainly has a good base. John Milburn (Zyuu) joined Final Fantasy Union to talk about his new project, Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft.
Final Fantasy Union: What's Final Fantasy XIV Core all about?
John Milburn: We're all about creating the number one English fansite for FFXIV, as well as the #1 community and site for all things Final Fantasy, but mainly FFXIV.
Basically, we're all avid Final Fantasy fans and we wanted to bring our knowledge and passion together and really show everyone how great Final Fantasy is. Final Fantasy XIV has impressed all of us enough to dedicate our time to Final Fantasy XIV Core. We believe in Squaresoft Enix's new game!
FFU: What are you hoping to achieve with the site?
JM: To become the premiere English-Language Final Fantasy XIV fansite, as well as a fantastic gaming and social community.
FFU: What made you decide to choose World of Warcraft and Lineage 2 instead of Final Fantasy XI?
JM: Personally, I was choosing between Final Fantasy XI and Lineage 2. I played Lineage 2 prior to World of Warcraft. The reason I went with L2 instead of FFXI was simply due to how most my friends already had started trying out the L2 beta. It was quite random and could have gone either way. FFXI remains an MMO that I wish I had played from the start. But you can't have everything, hehe. FFXIV is a game I won't miss out on for sure.
FFU: What are the key differences between Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV that has lead you to be so invested before it's even released?
JM: Square Enix appears to releasing more information this time and we can already tell by the information we already know that the game will become a smashing success. Well, up to 99% certainty. Plus, they're using my favorite music composer for FFXIV as well. For more information on what's already out about FFXIV, check out our site.
FFU: Do you play any MMORPGS currently?
JM: The last MMO I played was WoW and I haven't played World of Warcraft for over a year now. Currently I play no MMORPGS. I'm waiting for Final Fantasy XIV. I've played Aion some.
FFU: As an MMO veteran, what is your opinion on the news that Final Fantasy XIV won't have an EXP system, but will rely on skill and equipment?
JM: I love it. Something new finally! It's refreshing and I'm waiting closely on how more information is being released and what other peoples opinions are about it.
FFU: What are your thoughts on the concensus that World of Warcraft is starting to swing more towards the casual gamer, for example, making equipment much easier to obtain?
JM: I feel that its a nice change of pace, but on the other hand - people still want challenges and WoW has become too "easy". Hopefully Final Fantasy XIV will keep a certain balance so the challenge remains.
Many thanks to John for allowing us to conduct this interview, you can check out his new site at Final Fantasy XIV Core.
