Final Fantasy XIV For 360 Development On Hold
Speaking with CVG, producer of Final Fantasy XIV Hiromichi Tanaka has revealed that the development of Final Fantasy XIV on the 360 has "stopped," but not cancelled.
At Gamescom today, Tanaka stressed again that the closed nature of Xbox Live has been a roadblock in the discussion with Microsoft about bringing the game to the 360.
"We have no plans at the moment [for FFXIV on the 360]. We've stopped the development process for now. If the situation changes we'll work on it again, but there are no plans at the moment," he said.
Producer Sage Sundi then joined in by reinforcing that Xbox Live is "mostly the problem." However, he cheekily added that "200,000 people maybe send an e-mail to Microsoft asking to give [them] access to the other side of Xbox Live then there's a possibility."
Tanaka was not afraid to admit that the main reason development has stalled for the 360 version is because neither side have reached a mutual agreement. Square Enix's policy is "to have a cross-platform system so you'll be able to access the same server regardless of the platform."
Final Fantasy XIV will be released on the PC next month worldwide with a Playstation 3 release following in spring 2010
