While we may have expected big things from Square-Enix at TGS, such as new footage or maybe even a release date, we seem to have been (for once) pleasantly surprised by the company, who has announced an even closer event to look forward to.

Square-Enix is holding a 'premiere party,' set to take place on September 8th, where they are expected to announce the Japanese release date of Final Fantasy XIII and release early footage of what will be shown at the Tokyo Game Show. Their promise for XIII to be released in 2009 might actually hold true, but hopefully we'll hear for ourselves on the date of the event.
