While Final Fantasy XIII isn't set to be released until next week in Japan, the official Famitsu review for the game has been leaked early in Hong Kong.
The game's score was just one point short of a perfect score, getting 39/40, with only one reviewer giving the game a 9/10. According to translations of the leaked scan, the reviewer found faults in the the screen being too cluttered at times but noted that the enjoyment the game provides outweighs the issues.
Final Fantasy XIII is set to be released in Japan on December 17th, 2009 exclusively on the PlayStation3. The game will be available in North American and Europe on March 9th, 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Famitsu are so frigging biased I don't know why people pay attention to them apart from the buzz. They gave Nintendogs a 40. That means you should spend your money on Nintendogs over FF XIII. They just love anything Japanese.

Oh yeah!!! Go XIII!!! And yet there are some dumb people out there who say they have wasted 3 years of there life waiting for the game just cause it got 39/40, heck, some of them even wanna commit suicide. Go XIII!!!

It's a FF... They gotta chuck a slightly off perfect score at it. :p
Generally with Final Fantasy, it's a very personal choice whether you like a particular game more than any of the others, so comparing scores of ratings is very relative, no matter how much you try to keep to a reviewing specification.

How did XII get a 40!? xD
As much as a fan of XII that I am (that was not sarcasm, I love XII), I don't think it deserves such a high score due to its shortcomings. Anywho, I'm not surprised it got a high score. Square has been boasting that this will be the best Final Fantasy ever, so it had better be.

OH NO! a 39/40! they cant do that! ** a loud outcry causes the world breaks into 4 pieces** wow. i dont find them to be a good magazine and i really dont care about there game reviews. they gave Haze a better score then Killzone 2 mind you.

Well, that's a very good way to justify that Famitsu are giving higher scores nowadays. There's a very clear trend leaning towards the 40 mark. xD

I know some people did, but it's the general consensus that FF XII didn't have a story on par with the other FF's.

They do seem to be a lot more lenient these days actually.
Interesting to see that the 9/10 was because the game seemed over-crowded.

I heard this was just a rumor and not 100% yet. Though it most likely is the true score.
Personally I don't really care since Famitsu scoring has really really gotten soft over the past few years. Was nothing like during the days of N64/PSX era

And no, I'm not really surprised by this news, after all they gave XII a perfect score... and Final Fantasy XIII is looking like an awesome game.
I actually felt a little disappointed when I saw the score ... I dunno why though :s 39 is great.
