Children More Interested In Final Fantasy Spin Offs Than Main Series Says Producer

by Fozzie

In a recent interview, Square Enix producer Ichiro Hazama spoke about what he believes younger fans want from the Japanese developer and what he think fans will appreciate more.

"When you ask kids in their teens about their favorite Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy Type-0 and Dissidia are more popular than the main-numbered series," he says. Of course, he’s only talking about Japanese fans as Type-0 has yet to come to the West despite the many petitions fans have written to have it localised. "I want to make a new Dissidia, and we intend to do so. The people who’ve worked on the previous titles have also stated their desire to make a new one, too."

According to Hazama, him and Yoshinori Kitase believe that Dissidia and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy were key titles that introduced younger fans to the series. So what does this mean for Square Enix’s future?

For the moment, Ichiro Hazama is attempting to put something together for the 20th Anniversary of Chrono Trigger. If possible, Hazama would like to get the original story writer, Yuji Horii and director Hironobu Sakaguchi to create the “ultimate dot-art” game.

How do you all feel about more Dissidia/Theatrhythm titles in the future? Do you prefer the main-numbered games?
