TGS 2008 Sum-Up: We Got Dissidia Drinks
14 October 2008 by Kyle
If you thought TGS was underwhelming, well, you wouldn't be too far off. A lot of news did come out of TGS from Square Enix, and for those who weren't watching the play-by-play, here's a Final Fantasy Union TGS 08 Re-cap.
The most prominent title at TGS in terms of news was Dissidia: Final Fantasy, so that's where we'll kick this round-up off.
Square Enix Do Have Loyalty: To Their Wallets
12 October 2008 by Darryl
Much has been said recently about Square Enix turning their back on Sony, as in the last 6 months, Square Enix have seemed to shift camps and now appear to be courting Microsoft much more than anyone else. This is primarily down to the shock announcement revolving around Final Fantasy XIII, when at E3 earlier this year, Square Enix announced that it was no longer a Playstation 3 exclusive in North America and Europe.
Further rumours have been abound recently due to the Tokyo Game Show 2008, where Microsoft had its booth right next to where Square Enix set up. Comments from Yoichi Wada during his keynote speech also helped to ignite the fire, but the question is, where do Square Enix's loyalties actually lie? Is this all being blown completely out of proportion?

Leaked Final Fantasy Agito XIII Trailer
12 October 2008 by Darryl
A gaming show isn't complete without leaked footage and while we weren't the ones who leaked it, someone else was kind enough to do so. The footage is for Final Fantasy Agito XIII which has recently been confirmed as a PSP only game in the Crystallis series and it shows off both FMV and in-game footage.
The leaked trailer can be found after the jump.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII TGS 2008 Trailer Impressions
10 October 2008 by Darryl
Quite a lot of new footage was shown in the new Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer and it shows Noctis (the new name for the Prince) in a slightly different light to trailers seen in the past.
The trailer itself starts in a similar fashion, with Noctis sitting in a car listening to the news. However, this is where things change. The trailer then shifts to in-game footage, which shows Noctis wearing a lovely black suit. It appears that he's on some kind of date, as the girl with blonde hair who has appeared in previous trailers greets him while wearing a cocktail dress.
Following this in-game sequence, the trailer heads back to the safety of pre-rendered sequences; the first of which shows a council of aged men, which are probably all from countries that have banded together against Noctis.
Other new footage focusses on Noctis' three friends, which have been shown briefly in other trailers. This is the last of the new footage though, as the rest is all made up from previous trailers.
So, in short - The in-game footage looked easily on a par with Final Fantasy XIII's, but there doesn't appear to be any voice acting done yet, as the characters were using Japanese subtitles to communicate with each other. There was also no mention of a release date, so we could be looking at a 2010 release in Japan.
Final Fantasy XIII TGS 2008 Trailer Impressions
10 October 2008 by Darryl
The trailer for Final Fantasy XIII has been shown at this year's Tokyo Game Show 2008. As expected from Square Enix based on what they've done over the past 2 years, most of the trailer was just re-hashed bits from old trailers. However, there was some new footage of sorts.
The first scene is a slightly extended version of a previous scene including "Pigtails Girl", who is now known as either Sarah or Seron. It highlights the landscape that's surrounding her, which actually looks very prehistoric, with what looks like dinosaurs around her.
Following this, there is no footage which reveals two new character, who both appear to be a villains. One is male, while the other is female and they both seem to be working for the Cocoon military.
The rest of the trailer contains similar footage to that of old, and at the end there is a tag line which reiterates that Final Fantasy XIII is still Playstation 3 exclusive in Japan and it will be released in 2009 in Japan.
IGN Hands-On With Dissidia
10 October 2008 by Darryl
When IGN got to play Final Fantasy Dissidia this time last year at Tokyo Game Show 2007, they absolutely loved the game, so has much changed in a year?
It doesn't seem so at all, as Ryan Clements commented that Dissidia for the PSP is a must have title and his only regret was that he didn't get to spend longer playing the game. Apparently the queues were quite long, which is a good sign.
Here is Ryan's conclusion from his time with the game:
"Although I only just scratched the surface of what Dissidia has to offer, considering all the special techniques, wall running and aerial combos to be found, this is a PSP title that should not be missed."
