Final Fantasy Versus XIII To Have Controllable Airships
Wed, Mar 17th, 2010, 1:37 pm (EST) by Omen
Tetsuya Nomura, legendary character designer and director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII has recently been posting on twitter. Unfortunately, he does not have his own Twitter account, if he did, we'd be all over it; Instead has been answering questions via the Square-Enix Members account.
When asked how far along Final Fantasy Versus XIII was in development, Nomura replied with:
"Not everything is connected together, so the various areas have different levels of progress. However, you can fly across the world map in an airship."
Airships are quite the tradition in Final Fantasy titles, so thats not really the biggest news here. The big news is the fact that they are controllable across the world map. That one sentence suggests a lot more exploration in Final Fantasy Versus XIII than it's older brother, and should make traditionalists of the franchise happier.

Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 Bundle Is Confirmed
Thu, Feb 11th, 2010, 6:32 pm (EST) by Omen
Today at Microsoft's X10 event held in San Francisco, the previously rumoured $399 Xbox 360 Final Fantasy XIII bundle was officially unveiled along with other Xbox 360 exclusives.
The special edition bundle will contain the previously stated Final Fantasy XIII-branded 250GB hard drive, two controllers, and the standard version of the game; with the addition of a headset and exclusive downloadable content.
Also announced at the event were limited edition faceplates designed by Tetsuya Nomura that are "only available promotionally in fixed quantities across select retailers in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand."
At this current time, the downloadable content is reportedly avatar accessories for use with the Xbox 360 avatar system, and nothing in-game exclusive, though this has yet to be confirmed.
Exclusive Xbox 360 DLC for the avatar system is nothing too new for Final Fantasy XIII, as a pet Chocobo was also given away just a short while ago in a Twitter event.
The bundle and custom faceplates will be up for grabs on the 9th of March, which coincides with the release of the game.

Nomura: No Plans For Final Fantasy VII Remake... Yet
Sat, Jan 23rd, 2010, 8:36 pm (EST) by Ronin90
Fans have long been craving a remake of Final Fantasy VII, but in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, Tetsuya Nomura, the man behind the iconic character designs in FFVII, has again dashed their hopes.
Speaking on the subject, he said that there are as yet no plans for a Final Fantasy VII remake, but he hopes that Cloud Strife, will be able to make more cameo appearances in other Square Enix properties. He most recently appeared in Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
This will come as a disappointment to some, as Tetsuya recently announced that he was working on a franchise that would "give fans what they want" - it doesn't really leave many other options for what that game can be. He's also working on completing Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which he stated should see a lot more information revealed at this year's E3.

Further Teasing
No Final Fantasy Versus XIII Until E3 2010
Posted on 2009/10/25 by Sanrin
In response to criticism involving in-development footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, director Tetsuya Nomura has recently revealed a bit more information regarding the footage shown at Tokyo Game Show 2009, as well as some insight as to the game play itself.
"That wasn't development stuff, but a technical demo reel of sorts" he explains in the latest issue of Famitsu, "We hurriedly put together a video because we wanted people to be assured that Versus is also still under development." Nomura also provides some good news for Kingdom Hearts fans, confirming that combat "will fall close to that category, but we're aiming for a fusion of new features with the classic FF style. We see level design as the most important part of development here, but it'll be a while before we can show any of that."
Nomura closed by announcing more information will be given at E3 next year, "if we're quick enough." Let's hope they work hard!

Square Enix At E3 2009
Posted on 2009/05/24 by Ronin90
E3 2008 was massive for Square Enix. They didn't announce any new games, or wow anyone with new trailers for their highly anticipated games. However, they did drop the bomb that Final Fantasy XIII would no longer be exclusive to the PlayStation 3, as it would also be appearing on the Xbox 360.
Since then, support for Square Enix has dropped considerably, and not just amongst loyal Sony supporters. Consistent rumours about Final Fantasy XIII delays and the game's production values, as well as other reports about the company have tarnished Square Enix's reputation in the West. What better place to try and rekindle the love affair than at the biggest trade shown in the world, E3.

Exclusive Interview With Dissidia Staff
Dissidia II Dependant On Western Sales
Posted on 2009/05/06 by Ronin90
In a recent Dissidia press tour helmed by Dissidia: Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Takeshi Arakawa, Final Fantasy Union had the opportunity to ask about a series of topics concerning the forth coming western release of Dissidia.
Furthermore, as Square Enix was happy to cover a wide range of Dissidia topics, we here at Final Fantasy Union are taking the opportunity to launch our 3-Part Dissidia Interview Series.
Dissidia was received extremely well in Japan, with it scoring well with critics and also posting very high sales figures. A few months ago we commented that Tetsuya Nomura said Dissidia II would happen if fans wanted it and at the time there was a lot of mystery shrouded around the comment as it was found in the Dissidia Ultimania guide.

Dissidia II Highly Likely
Dissidia II Will Happen, If Fans Want It
Posted on 2009/02/02 by Ronin90
So far, Dissidia: Final Fantasy can't be seen as anything other than a huge success. It outsold Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII in a very small period of time and it continues to sell reasonably well on the PSP almost 2 months after its initial release. It's inevitable that Square Enix are already planning a full-blown sequel to capitalise on their new found riches, right? Wrong.
Tetsuya Nomura has disclosed that while Dissidia II was something at the front of their minds, other projects have gained more importance and Dissidia II has been shelved indefinitely. However, he did leave the door open by claiming that if enough fans ask Square Enix to make the game, they will strongly consider developing a sequel.
More after the jump.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy Preview
Posted on 2008/12/12 by Kyle
A couple weeks ago in the article about the state of Final Fantasy a curious title was mentioned, Dissidia: Final Fantasy. As stated then, most Final Fantasy fans hungry for some pure RPG gameplay won't find what they're hoping for in Dissidia, but no-less a lot of Final Fantasy fans are looking forward to it. What exactly fans are looking forward to is a split between what has made Super Smash Bros. such a hit: fandom and gameplay.
Dissidia is a fighting game, but not in the traditional sense. Unlike Smash Bros., which has 3D characters battling it out on a 2D plain, Dissidia features characters fighting in 3D in fully 3D environments. As another comparison, battles are like those of Kingdom Hearts rather than Street Fighter. The characters of Dissidia, which are at least the initial draw for those waiting for the game, are the protagonists and antagonists from nearly every past main series Final Fantasy game. If you're a fan of Final Fantasy VI, you can expect to have wild battles between Terra and Kefka; if you're a fan of Final Fantasy IX, Zidane versus Kuja will certainly bring back memories. The only game not represented by a character so far in Dissidia is Final Fantasy XII, but a recent announcement stated that it would be present within the game. Further more, the character designer for all the characters in the title is Tetsuya Nomura. Nomura however was only the original designer for Final Fantasy VII, VIII and X, not the rest of the series.
Preview continues after the jump.

FFXII Gets Dissidia Love, FFXIII Gets Cold Shoulder
Posted on 2008/12/03 by Ronin90
Dissidia: Final Fantasy's release is only just around the corner in Japan, so Famitsu felt it was a good time to hold an interview with four of the game's most high profile developers, including Tetsuya Nomura.
While there were some very interesting nuggets of information revealed in the internet (see below), such as the confirmation that there will be only 12 stages and that the Chaos characters won't have an individual story; the most interesting pieces came from questions about further characters that could be included in the game.

Dissidia: Bartz Officially Confirmed
Posted on 2008/10/08 by Ronin90
After we reported a few days ago that Bartz would likely be confirmed at this year's Tokyo Game Show, it seems that Square Enix decided to jump the gun and announce Bartz a day early.

A new scan from Shonen Jump Magazine shows off Bartz in his re-done Dissidia concept style, which has been rendered by Tetsuya Nomura based off of Yoshitaka Amano's original work.
