Tetsuya Nomura Under Orders To Tweet
Wed, Aug 4th, 2010, 12:59 am (EST) by Colin
Alright well this isn't exactly Final Fantasy related news, but hey, it's about everyone's favourite designer, Tetsuya Nomura.
Apparently, he's been spotted on Twitter, although according to him, he's only posting because he's "under orders" to do so. Now Square Enix's Yoichi Wada and Shinji Hashimoto have been known to be quite the Twitter fiends, posting up a storm on the Square Enix Members Twitter feed. However, Tetsuya Nomura himself has yet to actually join the craze.
He's made two tweets so far...
Square Enix Mailing Goodies To Fans
Wed, Aug 4th, 2010, 12:30 am (EST) by Colin
Check your mailboxes people, and I mean your physical ones, not the electronic counterparts. Apparently Square Enix has been mailing out some free goodies to Square Enix Members who have registered their games on the site.
According to DualShockers, Square Enix has mailed several high quality postcards to fans. They include printouts of Final Fantasy XIII, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep as well as Star Ocean The Last Hope.
Anybody here lucky enough to receive said goodies from your favourite developer? Makes me wish I had registered my games. In any case, check out the postcards, courtesy of DualShockers.
Cosplay Of The Week: Genesis Rhapsodos
Tue, Aug 3rd, 2010, 9:26 pm (EST) by Colin
Eat your heart out fangirls, this week's cosplay feature proves that I'm not just browsing the web for good looking gals in Final Fantasy outfits (Okay, maybe I am). Anyway, back on topic. As usual, let's start off with who we've already showcased and they would be,
- blacklash90 as Oerba Yun Fang from Final Fantasy XIII
- Stella as Stella Nox Fleuret from Final Fantasy Versus XIII
- RainerTachibana as Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII
Yeah we're going to need a page for them cosplays eventually.
Genesis Rhapsados is the man of the week. Cosplayed by Otaru-Shirou, who has also cosplayed other characters including Squall from FFVIII and Riku from Kingdom Hearts II. Check out his killer cosplay after the jump, and more over at his deviantArt page. From the leather to the rapier and let's not forget his hair too, Otaru-Shirou makes a splendid Genesis.
And I'm sure the fangirls agree.
News Roundup: New FF For Keitai Phones & FFXIV Release Details
Sat, Jul 24th, 2010, 10:00 pm (EST) by Colin
I think we've had a fair bit of news this week. Although most of them concern FFXIV, but that's no real surprise since it is Square Enix's next major release. Don't forget that it's out September 30, at least on PC.
First bit of news this week, Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy Legends: Warrior of Light and Darkness. Now that's an IP that was trademarked a while ago, but we had no idea what it was until this week. Apparently it's a title that looks to bring the classic Final Fantasy experience to cell phones, at least in Japan. No word on any North American release.
Rumours about FFXIII being released on the Xbox 360 in Japan hit the webs too. Although to be honest it doesn't really make all that much sense from a business perspective. The 360 isn't exactly doing very well in Japan and most people looking to get it would've gotten the long since released PlayStation 3 version.
Hit the jump for more of this week's coverage.
Final Fantasy XIV To Launch With 18 Classes
Fri, Jul 23rd, 2010, 1:02 pm (EST) by Colin
Final Fantasy XIV will launch with 18 different classes that can be mixed and matched all in one character. This information is readily available on the official site but it's nice to have confirmation that all will be available at launch. The current beta only allows for a couple of these classes but Square Enix is looking to add more once the game hits retailers worldwide.
The classes are a good mix of combat, magic, gathering and crafting roles. Combatants are called the Disciples of War and include the Pugilist, Gladiator, Marauder, Archer and Lancer. The magi are aptly named the Disciples of Magic and there only two of them, the Conjurer and Thaumaturge. Gatherers, Disciples of The Land, include the Miner, Botanist and Fisherman. The real kicker are the crafters, dubbed the Disciples of The Hand, tallying up to a total of eight different branches: Carpenter, Blacksmith, Armourer, Goldsmith, Leather Worker, Weaver, Alchemist and Culinarian.
Seems like the crafters play a rather significant role in the world of Eorzea. With the use of Final Fantasy XIV's Armoury system, players are capable of specializing in either a single skill or mixing them up to suit their fancy. These 18 classes should be plenty to keep Eorzeans busy once the game releases, if not, director Hiromichi Tanaka does mention that they'll be adding even more after the PC release of September 30.
Rumour: Final Fantasy XIII Hitting Xbox 360s In Japan
Wed, Jul 21st, 2010, 4:06 am (EST) by Colin
Final Fantasy XIII hit stores exclusively for the PlayStation 3 in Japan back in December 2009. That may now change though as an Xbox Achievements list for the game has surfaced on Japan's Xbox.com.
The news comes from XNEWS, probably Japan's largest Xbox information site. Interestingly enough, the majority of games that had their achievements lists leaked on XNEWS prior to an official statement were eventually released in Japan.
Final Fantasy XIII released in North America and Europe in March 2010 this year for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, however, the PS3 version managed to sell almost twice as many units than the 360. Considering the smaller 360 market in Japan, will releasing FFXIII on said platform be even worth the effort?
