Final Fantasy VIII Coming Feb 4th To EU PlayStation Store

Thu, Jan 21st, 2010, 11:02 am (EST) by Ronin90

Many Europeans have been waiting for a quite a while to get their hands on Final Fantasy VIII via the PlayStation store, as it originally became available in Japan way back in September of 2009. North Americans were then able to enjoy it in December of 2009, but Europeans kept checking every Thursday to no avail.

Sony have now finally given a concrete release date for the title though, and they've set it as the 4th of February, 2010. Currently there's no price attached to the product, but expect it to be in a similar price range to Final Fantasy VII.

Next on the check list would be Final Fantasy IX, but that hasn't even been rumoured yet, so it might be a while before it's seen.

Final Fantasy VIII Comes to PlayStation Store

Sat, Dec 19th, 2009, 3:35 pm (EST) by Kyle

With Final Fantasy VII sitting as one of the top downloads on the PlayStation Store month after month, Square Enix has decided to add Final Fantasy VIII to their PSN roster. The PSone Classic title can be played on both PSP and PS3, and is priced at $9.99 on the US PlayStation Store. John Yamamoto, President and CEO of Square Enix, Inc. spoke about the addition of the game to the store,

"We’re very excited to share the Final Fantasy VIII experience with not only a new generation of RPG gamers, but also all of our long-time Final Fantasy fans. Final Fantasy VII received an incredibly warm reception on the PlayStation Network, and we are thrilled to see what possibilities this latest release of Final Fantasy VIII will bring to the franchise."

Square Enix have also put together a minimalist website alongside the PS Store release of the game. For series fans that haven't played FFVIII, $10 is a pretty fair price to play arguably one of the best games in the series.

Final Fantasy XIII Headlining PlayStation Home

Posted on 2009/11/11 by Kyle

Sony's PlayStation Blog reports that this Friday, the 13th, will see the debut of a new Final Fantasy XIII video within PlayStation Home. A surprising way to debut a new video, but it should certainly draw in lots of PSN users into PlayStation Home.

The video is probably yet another trailer, but it's anyone's guess. Considering the game is multiplatform, the trailer may also very well land on Xbox Live and the PlayStation store too, at some point.

The video will be shown in the PlayStation Home 10-Screen Theatre, however at what time on Friday was not detailed. Seems Sony and Square Enix have something nice for this Friday The 13th, perhaps they don't realize the typical theme of the celebrated day. Or maybe they do, we'll see what exactly is shown on Friday.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy Now Available Via PlayStation Store

Posted on 2009/11/05 by Ronin90

Dissidia: Final Fantasy, one of this year's biggest releases on the PlayStation Portable, is now available on the PlayStation Store.

Fans have been clamouring to download the game for a while now, and Square Enix have finally made the option available - something which is sure to see a short surge in sales of the title.

This might even help to increase the Western sales enough to warrant Square Enix talking again about a sequel to the title. Previously they stated that they would only consider a sequel if the sales were strong enough in the West.

Final Fantasy VIII PSN Coming to Europe Soon

Posted on 2009/10/01 by Shawn

Square Enix recently released Final Fantasy VIII on the Japanese PlayStation Store to mark the start of TGS 2009, making European and North American fans wondering when the game would hit their shores.

Final Fantasy VIII was a radical departure from Final Fantasy VIII, using more life-life character models and foregoing the usual magic and stat-building process w/ a new Junctioning feature which used magic to augment your stats.

According to a comment by Mike Kebby (PlayStation Store Team, SCEE) in the latest PlayStation Store update, Europeans can expect to be able to purchase the game in the next few weeks. No word on a date for North America, but it is likely Sony and Square Enix will be releasing the game close to one another for both regions.

No DLC Planned For Dissidia: Final Fantasy

Posted on 2009/05/07 by Kyle

Welcome to Part Two of Final Fantasy Union's Dissidia Interview series. As mentioned in yesterday's Part One, Final Fantasy Union very recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dissidia: Final Fantasy Director Takeshi Arakawa and Producer Yoshinori Kitase and ask them about the forth coming Dissidia's western release.

One particular area PSP games have surprisingly early roots in is downloadable content. Thanks to the Playstation Store and Xbox Live, downloadable content has become a well worn term to gamers of today, with such extra content as Fallout 3 story expansions, maps in Halo 3, and added sack boys in LittleBigPlanet.

WipeOut Pure, one of the first PSP games launched, featured a multitude of extra downloadable tracks and racing ships long before the PSP even had a web browser. Killzone: Liberation went as far as to add online multiplayer and a whole 20% more story as downloadable content, and free at that. Most PSP games would work with downloadable content, so why not the ever technologically leading edge Square Enix in their first Final Fantasy brawler on PSP?

Continues after the jump.
