Rejoice, Final Fantasy V is finally coming to North America after having been re-released for the umpteenth time in Europe and Japan. The game will be available through the PlayStation Store and playable on both PS3 and PSP.
The news comes through an ESRB rating which lists the game for re-release on PSN. Not to mention, Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger are also slated for re-release on Sony's network.
There isn't a release date yet, but you can expect one rather soon.
Final Fantasy V was released on the European PlayStation Network during last week, but Square Enix has issued a statement which clarifies exactly what version of the game it was.
Indeed, Final Fantasy V on the PlayStation Network is simply a port of the PlayStation One version, which was an update on the original SNES version. So, no "all-new" cutscenes at all. It's a real shame, as many were looking forward to checking out some new content for the game.
Square Enix previously announced that Final Fantasy V would be hitting PSN - and hit PSN it has, the game is now out on the PAL PlayStation Network and is priced at €9.99 / £7.99.
Final Fantasy VI was also recently announced to hit PSN in Japan, with FFV out so soon, maybe we'll see FFVI hit the West as well.
The Japanese arm of Square Enix has, via Shinji Hashimoto, announced that SNES classic Final Fantasy VI will be following Final Fantasy V onto the PlayStation Network via their "Game Archives" service.
Surprisingly, it will be releasing in a week's time, on the 20th of April. Why is this surprising? Because usually there is a lengthy gap between the announcement and the delivery. Chrono Cross was announced to release quite some time ago, but it still hasn't appeared on the PlayStation Network.
Hopefully this means that Final Fantasy VI is also being prepared for release on the PlayStation Network in North America and Europe. Currently it's only available via Nintendo's WiiWare service, although it has appeared on various other platforms throughout the years.
Great news guys, Square Enix has declared that Final Fantasy V is going to be released on the PlayStation Network in the near future. You'll be able to play the title directly on the PS3, or take it on the go with your PSP.
There's no release date at the present time, but Square Enix did stated that the game would feature some additional content. It will also be sporting some lovely new CGI cutscenes which have never been seen before.
As soon as we hear about a release date for this, we'll be sure to let you guys know. Until then though, there's plenty of other stuff to keep you occupied, what with the recent release of Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy and the original two Final Fantasy games also appearing on PSN.
