Media Blitz For Final Fantasy Agito XIII Starting Next Year

Posted on 2009/10/21 by Ronin90

Out of the three Fabula Nova Crystallis titles, Final Fantasy Agito XIII has probably garnered the least attention. Rightly so, as unlike the other two, it's only being released on the PlayStation Portable.

However, it promises to promote a completely different experience, and many have described it as Final Fantasy mixed with Monster Hunter. The trailer shown at this year's Tokyo Game Show only reinforced this, and Square Enix have announced that they will start releasing much more information next year.

This is definitely good news, as it's a title that should definitely be on people's radars - even if its bigger brothers are stealing all the limelight right now.

Can Agito Break Monster Hunter's Stranglehold?

Posted on 2009/03/01 by Ronin90

Monster Hunter has been seen as the de facto game in Japan for the PSP, as the top 3 games sales-wise are all from the Monster Hunter franchise. Square Enix are getting closer to catching up with their sales though, with both Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Dissidia: Final Fantasy posting very respectable numbers.

These sales see Square Enix currently occupy positions 4 and 5 in the PSP's Japanese sales charts, and Square Enix must surely be hoping that they can strike gold with their third major title on the PSP - Final Fantasy Agito XIII.

More after the jump.

Dissidia Set To Oust Crisis Core's Impressive Sales

Posted on 2009/01/12 by Ronin90

Much has been made of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. It was in theory every Final Fantasy fan's dream, and it has the potential to even bring in players who might normally be put off by the RPG nature of the series. Given this, it's hardly surprising that Dissidia beat Crisis Core's first week sales figures.

However, not only did it do that, but it's also continued to sell well since its release on the 14th of December. After just 3 weeks, it has already managed to sell 750,000 units, and it looks more than likely to overtake Crisis Core's lifetime Japanese sales of 790,000 next week; just a month after it was released.

It wouldn't be too much to suggest that Dissidia could well break the 1,000,000 units sold in Japan, and with the prospect of North America looming in Q2/Q3 of 2009 and Europe also on the cards at some point, Dissidia's sales could put it close to rivalling Monster Hunter Freedom 2nd G, on a worldwide scale.

Dissidia's First Day Japanese Sales Figures Match Crisis Core's

Posted on 2008/12/19 by Ronin90

Everyone had high expectations for Dissidia: Final Fantasy after all the hype its been receiving, and it appears to have delivered. Some thought it might actually break the one-day sales record, but it didn't quite meet that target as it managed to sell 350,000 units.

This amount of units sold matches that of Crisis Core, while it's still some way of short of the 670,000 that Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G managed when it was released. However, Crisis Core went on to sell almost 500,000 units in its opening week, so it'll be interesting to see how Dissidia performs.

It's also been reported that 40,000 of the units were obtained via sales of the Limited Edition PSP-3000 Bundle.

Square Enix's Sales Down 63%? Just Wait Until Dissidia Hits

Posted on 2008/12/08 by Ronin90

In a recent study, it was unveiled that this year Square Enix's sales were down by 63%. This was partly because the bulk of Crisis Core's Japanese sales came in 2007, but it still performed well when it was released in other regions earlier this year. The main reason for Square Enix's lacklustre sales this year is the absence of any other strong titles, which is where Dissidia: Final Fantasy comes in.

Since it was initially announced, Dissidia has intrigued nearly all fans of Final Fantasy. This is because Dissidia is a celebration of 20 years of Final Fantasy and it will include characters from all twelve of the games which make up the main series. So, even if you only liked one game in the franchise, it will still be featured. The other reason is because it's not an RPG, but a fighting game. Ehrgeiz was released some years ago and only featured characters from Final Fantasy, but now players will get the chance to see who really is the best protagonist in Final Fantasy history.

Dissidia Downloadable Content A Possibility?

Posted on 2008/09/28 by Ronin90

Square Enix have announced that Dissidia: Final Fantasy will have a roster of only 20 characters, which will be comprised of two from each game in the series between Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy X. Each game will only have one protagonist and one antagonist present, which could leave some fans feeling a little bit peeved, as some games had more than one solid candidate for inclusion.

It is well publicised that Square Enix initially wanted to put Seymour in as the Final Fantasy X villain, but had to put in Jecht due to his ties with Tidus. Had Seymour Guado been included, the presence of Yuna would have been required. But wouldn't it be great if they gave fans some degree of choice?
