Final Fantasy XIV's Fatigue System: Much Ado About Nothing
Mon, Aug 30th, 2010, 2:31 pm (EST) by Colin
Alright so in recent days, a certain feature of Final Fantasy XIV was brought under the ever watchful and scrutinizing eyes of the gaming populace. Basically, the issue is FFXIV's going to limit your playtime. Once a player hits 8 hours of game time, experience gained starts to drop, hit 15 hours and there won't be any gain at all. It's called the Fatigue system.
"First off, the main concept behind FFXIV is allowing those players with little time on their hands to play effectively, and game balance is based off of that.
"Furthermore, it is being designed to not give those with more time on their hands to play an unfair advantage."
Game director Nobuaki Komoto was recently quoted briefly explaining the system, describing it as a means to curb those with an unfair advantage - aka those with lots and lots of time on their hands. According to Eurogamer and VG247, it keeps track of how long players are on and limits the amount of experienced earned after so many hours.
This is what sparked the outrage among fans.

FFXIV PS3 Technical Difficulties Due To Memory
Tue, Aug 24th, 2010, 1:59 pm (EST) by Colin
While the PC version of Final Fantasy XIV nears its release, which is next month, the PlayStation 3 version has been delayed until March 2011 - or indefinitely until Square Enix can rectify the "technical difficulties" that they've run into.
Producer Hiromichi Tanaka explained in detail what the problem was when he was speaking at GamesCom last week.
"The main reason was memory," said Tanaka.
"On the PC, they have enormous memory. For PS3, there's a restriction.
"They are adjusting the memory size and customizing it; it took longer than we were expecting. But we're really working hard to bring it out as soon as possible."
Understandable after seeing how demanding the game is, requiring an i7 processor and GTX 460 graphics card in order to enjoy a "smooth experience."
Final Fantasy XIV For 360 Development On Hold
Wed, Aug 18th, 2010, 7:21 pm (EST) by Sean
Speaking with CVG, producer of Final Fantasy XIV Hiromichi Tanaka has revealed that the development of Final Fantasy XIV on the 360 has "stopped," but not cancelled.
At Gamescom today, Tanaka stressed again that the closed nature of Xbox Live has been a roadblock in the discussion with Microsoft about bringing the game to the 360.
"We have no plans at the moment [for FFXIV on the 360]. We've stopped the development process for now. If the situation changes we'll work on it again, but there are no plans at the moment," he said.
