Nomura: Final Fantasy Versus XIII Developed Specifically For The PS3
Wed, Sep 8th, 2010, 5:17pm EDT by Colin
Final Fantasy Versus XIII's PS3 exclusivity has been brought into question before but now more so than ever thank to an interesting tweet made by Tetsuya Nomura. The man decided to talk a bit about the process of multiplatform development.
Specifically, Nomura discusses the difference between developing multiplatform titles and the porting of games from one platform to another,
"Multiplatform is when you start development on a game with the assumption of optimizing for multiple platforms. Porting is something that's done after you've developed a game specifically for a particular platform. The debate over porting is decided by the management based off the current market and the costs. All I can say right now as a developer is that Versus is being developed specifically for the PlayStation 3."
We aren't sure why Nomura suddenly decided to talk about porting and multiplatform optimization, it sounds a lot like Versus may see the same fate as Final Fantasy XIII. If anything, Nomura assures fans that Versus is definitely a PlayStation 3 game until "management" decides otherwise and should that happen, it'll just be a port, much like Final Fantasy XIII.
Final Fantasy Versus and Agito XIII Gets Combined Trailer At TGS
Mon, Aug 30th, 2010, 2:24pm EDT by Colin
I believe Tetsuya Nomura has fallen victim to the addiction that is Twitter. Either that or he's still using it because he has no choice in the matter. It's all too amusing really.
In any case, Nomura has revealed some details about the Versus and Agito showings at this year's TGS. Both Versus and Agito will be receiving the trailer treatment, however, Square Enix is planning on combining to the two into one one-minute trailer showing off in-game footage. The catch is, and it's no real big surprise, it won't be shown to the public.

Don't Expect Final Fantasy Versus XIII By 2011
Tue, Aug 24th, 2010, 3:39pm EDT by Colin
If you do, you're going to be bitterly disappointed and that bitterness is going to stay in your mouth quite possibly until 2012 as Square Enix just "cant commit" to 2011 at this point.
Darryl had the opportunity to talk to game producer Yoshinori Kitase at GamesCom and probed him about the issue, to which he replied,
We have no release date information to update. Unfortunately we can't say anything about that. We can't commit ourselves to 2011 either.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced way back many moons ago at E3 in 2006 and is one of the more anticipated titles among the Fabula Nova Crystallis project. There's been barely any news on it with maybe a couple of scans here and there, however Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that it will be at the Tokyo Game Show this year.
Nomura Tweets About Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Sun, Aug 8th, 2010, 10:51pm EDT by Colin
Looks like Tetsuya Nomura is putting The 3rd Birthday's Twitter account to full use. Earlier this week he kicked off by saying that he was under orders to tweet about Square Enix's reboot of Parasite Eve; however, he'll now be using it to provide fans with updates on other games that he is working on, like Final Fantasy Versus and Agito XIII.

Tue, Jul 20th, 2010, 8:42pm EDT by Colin
We're back again with yet another cosplay of the week! If you missed the last one, we featured the lovely blacklash90 who cosplayed as Oerba Yun Fang from Final Fantasy XIII. You can check out more of her cosplays over at her deviantArt page where she has since put up even more shots of herself as Fang.
This week we have a cosplay from Stella on the forums, also known as RinoaMao on deviantArt. She's done quite a wonderful job cosplaying as Stella Nox Fleuret from Final Fantasy Versus XIII. In fact, she's even recreated one of the iconic scenes from the trailer thanks to some really ingenious photography.

Final Fantasy Offers Countless Opportunities For Multiplayer
Thu, Jul 8th, 2010, 7:27pm EDT by Johnny
The Final Fantasy games, like most RPGs, have upheld the tradition of immersing that one person, the player, into the game entirely. Trying to sink two people into the sixty hour plots simultaneously might be spreading themselves too thin, surely.
But multiplayer in the series stems ten years now, since 2000 when Final Fantasy IX was released. Sure, it wasn't advertised at all and it wasn't a well-developed feature, but it was a step in the right direction. You can assign characters to controllers port 1 or 2 through the configuration menu so that a second player can share your party. It's a basic system, but it latches onto an idea that is synonymous with the new-age Final Fantasy fans. A lot of them grew up watching the games being played by an older sibling. The same story over and over:
"I never played Final Fantasy VII at first, I just watched my big brother play it."
