Final Fantasy Appears On Japanese Virtual Console
Posted on 2009/05/26 by Ronin90
The original Final Fantasy has now seen yet another release in Japan, as it's now available for purchase on the Wii for the Virtual Console.
The game looks as you'd expect and plays like it too. So if you're in Japan and have never played the original Final Fantasy, it could be worth checking out. Either way, it'll cost you 500 Wii Points.
This could mean that Final Fantasy II will be released on the Virtual Console relatively soon, as they are usually released side-by-side.

The Decline Of Square Enix Since 2003
Posted on 2009/02/15 by Ronin90
Before 2003, Square Enix didn't literally exist. Instead, two companies called Square and Enix did, both producing competing RPGS; Square with their famed Final Fantasy franchise, and Enix with their insanely popular Dragon Quest franchise. However, when Square came into financial difficulties due to the ill-fated Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within movie, the two merged and formed Square Enix.
The president who took Square down its slippery slope (Tomoyuki Takechi) left the company, and Yoichi Wada was promoted to be the new president of Square, and then Square Enix. Since then, many people have become more and more disillusioned about Square Enix's conduct and the games it produces.

Posted on 2009/02/08 by Ronin90
Final Fantasy VII is one of the most successful games of all time, and it certainly defined the JRPG; giving it massive exposure in the western market. For many, it was the first JRPG that they'd played and it holds a special place in the hearts and minds of many.
Fans have been caught in mass hysteria numerous times, starting with the Final Fantasy VII Tech Demo, and more recently when the Final Fantasy VII Playstation 3 was announced last month. Square Enix must clearly know the huge potential that this game has, and the purpose of this article is to discuss the impact that it could have, combined with analysis about what's taking Square Enix so long to announce it.

Final Fantasy Titles Do Better On PSP Than DS
Posted on 2009/01/01 by Ronin90
It's well documented that Square Enix heavily supported handhelds in 2008, but it's also well documented that Square Enix are supporting the DS much more than they are the PSP.
Earlier in the year we wrote an article which revealed that 45% of Square Enix's titles that are currently in development, or have been released this generation, are on the Nintendo DS, where as this number was about 17% for the PSP. It's obvious to see why Square Enix would do this, since the userbase for the DS is so much higher than the PSP, but is it really a wise decision when the numbers are actually crunched?

Hand Helds Dominate 2008's Final Fantasy Line-Up
Posted on 2008/12/28 by Ronin90
As Square Enix has grown to become more dependant on its successful franchises, more and more Final Fantasy games have come to the fore-front and 2008 was no exception. This year we saw some big releases on the handhelds, as well as some successful remakes.
The year kicked off with a major release, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. It hit American shores on the 25th of March and then found its way over to Europe on the 20th of June. Although it was released in 2007 in Japan, it didn't lag at all with sales and Crisis Core quickly became one of the biggest selling PSP titles of all time in all regions. It also helped restore some of Final Fantasy VII's reputation, as the other spin-offs were less than well received, but Crisis Core was received well and ended up being a solid product.

Dissidia's Missing Characters: Main Series
Posted on 2008/11/09 by Ronin90
It's been heavily promoted that Dissidia: Final Fantasy is a celebration of 20 years of Final Fantasy and for that reason, it features the two characters from the first ten iterations of Final Fantasy's main series.
The inclusion of some and exclusion of others has been a definite talking point amongst fans of the series, as some will sorely be missed in the line-up. Others could really stake a claim too, but were excluded anyway, sometimes for not straight-forward reasons.
We've compiled a bit of a wish list of characters we'd like to have seen included from the main franchise, and who knows, they may even appear at some point as downloadable content. It's important to remember that this list also breaks the rules of one antagonist and one protagonist per game.
