Final Fantasy veteran Shintaro Takai confirmed as an art and VFX director for VII Remake

Square Enix has been posting various job ads for Final Fantasy VII Remake in recent months and this latest one at CGWorld.jp has confirmed something that has been expected all along.

Final Fantasy veteran Shintaro Takai is serving as an art and VFX director for Final Fantasy VII Remake. It is currently unknown if he is the sole art director or if there is others.

Takai has been working on the series now for a little over 20 years. He was special magic effect director for the original Final Fantasy VII, battle effect director for Final Fantasy VIII, art director (battle) for Final Fantasy X, art director for Final Fantasy X-2, VFX director for Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-, graphics & VFX director for Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, VFX supervisor for Final Fantasy Type-0 and art director for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster.

Currently he's serving as graphics & VFX director for Mobius Final Fantasy and special effects supervisor for Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

Takai joins the growing list of Mobius Final Fantasy staff also working on Final Fantasy VII Remake, Yui Sawada was also recently revealed as a level planner for VII Remake and is also a game design director for Mobius.
