Despite recent talk from Hajime Tabata, the head of Business Division 2 and director of Final Fantasy XV about moving onto their new IP in 2018 it has now been revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2017 that development of Final Fantasy XV will continue into 2018 in order to complete the game.

During the latest Active Time Report, it was stated that due the strong demand of fans asking for Final Fantasy XV to continue and have its story further improved that they will be continuing its development in 2018.

Episode Ignis, which is scheduled for a December 2017 release (13 months after the game launched), was planned to be the last content released for the game but Square Enix has decided to continue adding content to the game next year.

Recent updates have added features like a basic bestiary, chapter select menu and more.

The aim of the continued development is to fill any holes in the story and to make Final Fantasy XV complete. Tabata stated "It won’t only be about digging further into characters through additional episodes, but we must show more for the setting of the world that is its base in order to better depict how its characters are living."
