Mobius Final Fantasy originally had a very different battle system

At PAX West 2017, producer Yoshinori Kitase brought a look at the development of Mobius Final Fantasy.

Kitase revealed that originally the game had a very different battle system. In this early system you move the cursor around and then you trace the path of where your character attacks. It was called the Anchor Trace Battle system.

They also used assets from Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII early in development as placeholders to test things. This is not the first time Kitase, director Motomu Toriyama and their team have done this. For the early development of Final Fantasy XIII they used assets from Final Fantasy X-2.

Kitase also spoke about creating the character models and backgrounds along with taking assets from Final Fantasy VII Remake.
