Final Fantasy Type-0 Online Confirmed For Western Release

Written by Darryl — 08 Jun 2016

With so much else going on regarding the Final Fantasy franchise, you'd be forgiven if you forgot that Final Fantasy Type-0 Online still existed. After all, we have heard almost next to nothing since it was announced during the Tokyo Game Show last year. However, following a briefing at AWS Summit Tokyo 2016, we know that development is still underway and an open beta test for the Chinese market is planned to take place in the near future.

Following its announcement last year, we were told that Final Fantasy Type-0 Online, which acts as a replacement for Final Fantasy Agito, would see a closed best test for Chinese territories at some point during the winter of 2015. This ended up taking place mid-April 2016.

With the news of the open beta, Square Enix also confirmed their intention to release the game in Japan, North America and Europe. This is positive news, as when the game was announced, Square Enix would not commit to a Western release and instead stated that it was "being considered".

Final Fantasy Type-0 Online is being developed by Chinese developer Perfect World and as far as we can tell, is still on track for a 2016 release in Japan.
