Cosplay Spotlight: Paddra Nsu-Yeul (Final Fantasy XIII-2)

Written by Katherine — 06 Jul 2016

Welcome back to Cosplay Spotlight, where we show you only the best cosplay from across the Final Fantasy franchise! In the past few weeks, we've featured some awesome cosplay, including Lulu from Final Fantasy X.

This week, we’re focusing on one of the more underappreciated, but loved characters in the franchise, Paddra Nsu-Yeul from Final Fantasy XIII-2 (and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII!)

Whether you love or hate the trilogy, I do hope you can appreciate the wonderful cosplay I’m about to show you! Yeul was definitely one of my favourite characters from Final Fantasy XIII-2, and I was so pleased to find such a beautiful cosplayer in Gazzy.

Now, here we go!

I spoke to Gazzy and asked them how long it took to create the entire costume. Overall, including trinkets and the head piece (fully retractable!), it took 8 months.

This is time spent that clearly paid off, as the sheer detail of the costume is what caught my eye to begin with... I felt like I was staring at a screenshot from the game!

Gazzy came to the decision to cosplay Yeul after being persuaded by her friend Hana, a fellow Final Fantasy cosplayer (https://www.facebook.com/hanaleecosplay/).

When the character designs were released for Final Fantasy XIII-2, Gazzy wasn’t sure who to cosplay in their upcoming Final Fantasy XIII-2 cosplay group as their first choice, Serah, was already taken. It wasn’t until Hana told Gazzy how much Yeul reminded her of them that Gazzy decided to cosplay Yeul instead.

Gazzy describes Yeul as one of the harbingers of hope in the game, and I couldn’t agree more. Without spoiling Final Fantasy XIII-2 for those who haven’t played, Yeul’s character is definitely a tragic one. Still, she keeps her head up and remains hopeful, staying pure and innocent even through trying times.

Until next time, cosplay lovers!
