Sazh is known as a very sympathetic and emotional man who easily breaks down in tears. This seems quite uncommon consider he served time in the Cocoon Army and it's here that he met Lightning.
Little is known about his past other than that, but he does seem to have a very fond connection to a Chicobo which he carries around with him. He fights with dual pistols and it's been revealed that Sazh joins the party towards the beginning of the game.
An interesting side note is that at the time of his announcement, it was also disclosed that he was modelled on Lionel Richie.
