Hello everybody, it's been ages since the last staff blog - and cosplay feature, for that matter - but I'm back this week with some random things to talk about.
No, I'm not going to talk about peaches, I think we've all heard enough about that…mmm, peaches.
Anyway, the character battle's moving into round 2 as of today! Big fights are a-coming and we're kicking it off with Cloud and Edgar. Be sure to vote for your favourite once that post goes up.
I would also like to share a little something that really made my day. It's hilarious. FXN member rikurocks made a little fan-made video with the bloopers from Episode 41 of the FFU Podcast. It has us going at each other to scenes taken from Kingdom Hearts 2. Check it out, you'll laugh. If you don't, expect to see flying, flaming peaches of doom raining down on you!
Siliconera's posted a Youtube video showcasing the many different emotes of Final Fantasy XIV and let's just say that there is a ton of them for various occasions. See the female Hyuran smile, dance and even playfully boxing thin air in this five minute video.
Personally, I've always felt a certain attraction to the art direction of XI, XIV and even XII. There's a very classy look about it and while there is certainly a very distinct attention to detail, nothing's ever glaringly over-the-top.

If ever there was a video which showed how much a game can change, it's the video that's viewable in the full story. It details the changes between Final Fantasy XIV in Alpha and Final Fantasy XIV in Beta.
Those with an observant eye will instantly notice that the lighting has been dramatically altered in the Beta. Areas which initially looked quite bright now have much more character. Changes have also been made to the textures, as the floor definitely looks more detailed.
Hopefully Square Enix can make even more changes to the game before its apparent 2010 release on the PS3 and PC.
A new video has made its way onto Final Fantasy XIV's official Youtube channel which shows two intruders getting a sneaky peak at Final Fantasy XIV's new character creation for the beta phase. This mischievous couple head into a secret location in Square Enix headquarters, only find an unmanned and unlocked computer already on the character creation screen. What are the chances?
This beta version of character creation has a lot more depth than the alpha version, with many new features and options that can be altered by the player at will. Instead of talking about it, why not watch the video below?
Today, Square-Enix have released a video regarding what is inside the collectors edition of Final Fantasy XIII for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version. If you weren't quite sold with what was listed inside the box, then check out the silent video below showing the contents being elegantly laid out for all to see. There is still time to change that pre-order!
Along with the game itself, the collectors edition contains a selection of the games sound track chosen by the games composer, Masashi Hamauzu; A hardback book featuring character artwork, CG rendered artwork and environments from the game; 3 collectable art prints showing the games Eidolons as well as an art decal featuring the brand of the L'Cie.
The game releases on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the 9th of March.
Square Enix are really pushing Final Fantasy XIII's Original Soundtrack in Japan, so much so that the company has published a two minute long commercial for it. The commercial samples quite a few songs from the four disc OST, while panning around the OST sitting open on a display.
A few extras are also shown off, including the nifty box the whole thing comes in. The OST hits retail on January 27th for 5250 Yen, and is even available for pre-order for all you importers out there. Check out the Final Fantasy XIII Original Soundtrack commercial in our full story.
Those wanting to see more of Final Fantasy XIII and happen to be attending the Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy concert this Saturday are in luck, as a new video will be showcased at the event.
According to the latest update to the concert's Facebook page, the video will be shown in the main lobby at 7PM. The update doesn't mention that it will be a trailer, instead using the term "video preview", so it could be some in-game footage instead of the long trailers that have been released in the past.
This is the second concert performance for the Distant Worlds concert in Chicago. It will be showcasing some never-before-heard music from Square Enix's upcoming Final Fantasy XIV, in addition to other Final Fantasy music.
With Final Fantasy XIII eleven days away from release in Japan, Square Enix is going all out with promotions, sort of. Square Enix has just released a new Japanese commercial for the game, but it's a merely 15 seconds of battle footage very quickly cut together.
Nevertheless it's helps showcase the pace of battle in Final Fantasy XIII, and with Final Fantasy XII being one of the lowest selling Final Fantasy's in the series' history, Square Enix certainly doesn't want to miss out on proving to gamers that Final Fantasy XIII is worth the price tag.
