Near the end of the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event in Japan, Shinji Hashimoto surprised the audience by unveiling what is known as the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Ultimate Box!
In this week's Famitsu, a few members of the development team for Final Fantasy XIV confirm that we'll be hearing some details about the PS3 version of the game at this year's Tokyo Game Show!
There will be some user interface differences between the PC and the PS3 version. For instance, theres no horizontally lined-up icons showing up the PS3 version. The designers are attempting to fit all of the main commands into eight items and also evolve the targeting system (so that you'll be able to select from within the targeting circle).
Since its pretty much confirmed that we won't be hearing much about the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV during the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary, seems like we'll have to wait till September 20th to hear more about that matter.
It has been quite some time since we've received some news on Final Fantasy Versus XIII (well, other then Yoichi Wada debunking the cancellation rumours). But today some word on the game managed to came through.
Producer Shinji Hashimoto appeared at Ginza SWING in Chuo-ku, Tokyo today to debrief some details on the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event. He mentioned Final Fantasy Versus XIII and commented on its progress, saying “The skin has been pulled back a few layers. First and foremost it is important to bring out Versus. Versus is supposed to be incredibly amazing!”
True its good to hear that the game isn't dead and canceled but after hearing the countless comments on how "amazing" it is, when will fans actually get the chance to see it for themselves? Perhaps it will slip in during the 25th Anniversary Event? Or make an appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2012? Only time will tell.
Today Square Enix North America dished out some details regarding their Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary event.
The event kicks off on August 31 from 1PM to 9PM PST at the ACT Theatre in Seattle (700 Union Street) and takes place in conjunction with the anniversary event that's going on in Tokyo.
Attendees will get the chance to participate in games and contests that commemorate the beloved series. The top winners will receive prizes such as character plushies and a Final Fantasy XIII-2 branded PS3 or Xbox 360.
Oh yeah, and did I mention that event goers get to receive a 25th Anniversary Poster designed by Yoshitaka Amano?
There is also a Final Fantasy XIV presentation of the demo content that is currently being shown at gamescom as well as a few additional reveals.
And lastly to top it all off, at 7:30PM Yoshinori Kitase, Motomu Toriyama and Isamu Kamikokuryo will show off a special video message that will reveal new details about the direction of Lightning's Story following Final Fantasy XIII-2.
As a part of their anniversary feature on Final Fantasy VII, Famitsu got down in an interview with character designer designer Tetsuya Nomura.
Within the interview Nomura reveals that they really would like to work on a remake for Final Fantasy VII, however they don't plan on doing that any time soon. Instead he plans to focus on making newer titles, trying to make ones that apparently match or even top off Final Fantasy VII.
Nomura also stated that he believes that producer Yoshinori Kitase is the true successor to the Final Fantasy series.
So with this bit of disheartening news, do you think we'll ever get to see a remake of the esteemed game in our time? Do you agree with Nomura's opinion of focusing on creating newer titles? And would you think it's possible for any of these newer titles to match or even outmatch Final Fantasy VII? Be sure to state your thoughts and feelings below.
And for the Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC forecast, there will be some Snow and Lightning on the same day. Alright excuse the pun but it's true, the Snow and Lightning DLC scenarios (as well as the downloadable costumes) are going to be available on May 15.
The Snow scenario, titled “Arena of Eternity”, focuses on our dear Snow and his relationship with his bride-to-be Serah. In this episode, details regarding how he became a L'Cie again as well as the mysteries about the coliseum will be unveiled. During the second half of the scenario, you'll have to battle it out against the strongest opponent in the coliseum yet, Valfdor (also known as the Arbiter of Time). For more details and screenshots on this piece of DLC, click here.
Lightning's scenario, "Requiem of the Goddess", is said to be the last of the story DLC's and will provide some more information regarding the game's ending. It focuses on the epic clashing of Lightning versus Caius and features a different form of gameplay.
Besides these scenarios, there will be some new costumes available for download. Serah recieves a White Mage getup while Noel has a Black Mage themed costume. This time, our favorite piggy-kitty isn't left out; there will be one costume set available for Mog that includes 16 different costumes.
All of this seems to be the last bit from the Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC campaign and will be available on May 15.
After what feels like ages, Tetsuya Nomura mentions some words on Final Fantasy Versus XIII in an interview with GameInformer. However, it may not be the words that you'd want to hear.
Although the interview was primarily about Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, GameInformer was able to sneak in a question, inquiring about Final Fantasy Versus XIII's progress. Nomura responded to the question with the following message: “We would like to ask for your patience on an official announcement for this title. It always takes time when tackling the challenge of doing something completely new, but we are doing our best to bring information to the fans as quickly as we can. Your patience is greatly appreciated.”
Believe it or not but next week marks the the sixth anniversary of Final Fantasy Versus XIII's announcement at E3 2006. So the question is, what's your response to Nomura's request? How long do you think it will take till this game awakes from its dormant state? Be sure to post your responses below. Also don't forget to answer this week's burning question that's related to the matter, will Square Enix announce Final Fantasy XV before Final Fantasy Versus XIII is released?
Square Enix has detailed the upcoming DLC packs for Final Fantasy XIII-2.
It was rumored that the minor antagonist of Final Fantasy XIII, Jihl Nabaat, was going to make a comeback in the sequel as battle DLC. Now its official that you will indeed get the chance to face her in the coliseum, and not alone for that matter. During battle, Jihl has the ability to call in PSICOM soliders for reinforcements. Once defeated, she can join your party as a Saboteur. This DLC will be available on March 13.
Also coming right up on the upcoming DLC list is a Lightning scenario titled "Lightning's Story: Requiem for a Goddess." Not many details are unveiled yet other then that this story focuses on Lightning's battle against Caius, features a battle system that's different from the game's regular battle system, and that this episode will reveal the hidden truths behind the Final Fantasy XIII-2 ending. This scenario shall be released sometime in mid-may.
In the meantime, you can click here for a look at some of the other upcoming DLC, here for details on the recently released Sazh scenario "Heads or Tails", or you can check out our interview with Troy Baker and Laura Baily, the voices of Snow and Serah from Final Fantasy XIII-2.
