Look at that, it's a Chocobo, in Final Fantasy XIV of all things! The mounts were recently detailed in a post from game producer and director Naoki 'YoshiP' Yoshida and Square Enix have since released a new video on their Final Fantasy XIV YouTube channel, complete with a Chocobo theme song.
The yellow feathered mount will be made available to adventurers with patch 1.19, which still doesn't have a known release date at this point in time.
In addition, airships are also included in the long list of features of the upcoming patch, which cover changes and adjustments such as the removal of physical levels, new Grand Company duty tasks, Beastman Strongholds, leve revisions, UI adjustments, etc.
In addition to the character development changes in patch 1.19 for Final Fantasy XIV, the upcoming update will also finally add airships and chocobo mounts to the world of Eorzea!
"We’re firing on all cylinders heading into the next patch, and there’s been some late nights and weekends spent here at the office. The encouragement we’ve been receiving on the forums has us doing everything we can to get things done," wrote Director and Producer Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida.
"Lemme start things off with a screenshot of one of the new airships taking to the skies come 1.19.
The upcoming 1.19 patch for Final Fantasy XIV will see the abolition of Physical Levels as well as some revisions to how Attribute and Element Points work. Instead, character progression will be much more automated.
At the moment Attribute and Element Points will be scrapped in 1.19, with character development automated based on class levels. Patch 1.20 will introduce the ability to distribute attribute points by yourself if you so choose, alongside balances to classes.
According to the released patch notes, the new character development system will be automated as well. The growth curve will be revised whereby you'll achieve greater increases in attributes with each level gained. However, the impact of said attributes decrease the higher the level, but the attributes attached to equipment will increase.
Other details include changes to in-game terminology, race-based attribute differences and player accuracy. You can check out the full patch notes over at The Lodestone.
Materia? What? No, we're not talking about a Final Fantasy VII remake. Materia's making a reappearance as a new core mechanic in the upcoming 1.19 patch for Square Enix's MMO Final Fantasy XIV.
The name for the system is still tentative, but adventurers will be able to bind Materia to their equipment using specific materials and tools. Unlike the Materia in FFVII, however, this Materia isn't formed through crystallization of Mako, but rather by achieving full 'Spiritbond' with an item or weapon.
Patch 1.18 is coming soon and alongside it some new content. Here's a sneak peak at Dzemael Darkhold, one of the two instanced raids that'll be available once Patch 1.18 is released.
Square Enix have released Patch 1.17b for Final Fantasy XIV, which addresses some bugs as well as new changes to the targeting system. Below are the patch notes.

Square Enix have temporarily shut down the online servers for Final Fantasy XI, XIV and their PlayOnline service in an effort to conserve energy in the aftermath of a devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake that shook Japan only a couple of nights ago.
"Due to the continuous earthquakes occurring in the eastern regions of Japan since Mar. 11, 2011, the power companies in Japan have encouraged everyone to cooperate by conserving as much energy as possible as it is feared there will not be enough power supply. Based on the current situation, we have decided to shut down the game servers temporarily, and therefore to suspend services of FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline temporarily."
The servers will remain down for a week or until further notice. All our prayers go out to those affected by the quake and tsunami.
