PS3 Final Fantasy XIV Details Coming To TGS 2012

FFXIVPS3 by Banaz

In this week's Famitsu, a few members of the development team for Final Fantasy XIV confirm that we'll be hearing some details about the PS3 version of the game at this year's Tokyo Game Show!

There will be some user interface differences between the PC and the PS3 version. For instance, theres no horizontally lined-up icons showing up the PS3 version. The designers are attempting to fit all of the main commands into eight items and also evolve the targeting system (so that you'll be able to select from within the targeting circle).

Since its pretty much confirmed that we won't be hearing much about the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV during the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary, seems like we'll have to wait till September 20th to hear more about that matter.

Final Fantasy XIV Overhaul Dubbed 'A Realm Reborn'

FFXIVPS3 by Darryl

We've known that Final Fantasy XIV was due to re-launch for quite some time, after Square Enix proudly announced they were working on version 2.0 of their latest MMO. However, the game's producer/director has now made it seem much more grandiose.

Naoki Yoshida has claimed that the release of Version 2.0, which is now being dubbed Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, should be thought of as "the latest title in the Final Fantasy series".

There's still no word on when we'll actually see the next iteration of the game, with the latest trailer simply stating it would be "coming soon", but the PS3 version is due to launch in Q1 2013.

X360 by Darryl

Boy have we got a treat for you lot today! Our own Brian "Tweex" Arnold has been slaving away (while also producing the Final Fantasy Union podcast) on an entire remix album for Final Fantasy XI!

Called The Land of Vana'Diel, the album contains 18 songs that have been remixed/rearranged to feature full orchestration. It will be releasing on the 1st of August, 2012 and will be completely free for everyone!

If you've played Final Fantasy XI, this is something you surely won't want to miss out on. Or, if you're just a fan of Nobuo Uematsu, Naoshi Mizuta or Kumi Tanioka, it's just as much of a treat.

Hiromichi Tanaka Leaves Square Enix

FFXIV by Darryl

Square Enix has announced at a recent Final Fantasy XI event that Hiromichi Tanaka, who was Senior Vice President of Sofware Development at the company, has left and will no longer be working on either of their MMOs.

Tanaka had been at Square Enix since the beginning, working on Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II, before moving onto some of Square Enix's other properties, such as Mana, Seiken Densetsu, Xenogears and Chrono Cross.

Following on from this, Tanaka was a producer on Final Fantasy XI, before becoming the main voice for Final Fantasy XIV - a project which performed terribly upon its release.

The plight of Final Fantasy XIV was a huge black mark on Tanaka's career, with him being removed from the project entire, and placed back on Final Fantasy XI's team.

Afterwards, the gang jumps straight into your questions and this episode there are a LOT. The questions this time include which FF games are the most underrated, how many FF13 installments there will be, should Sakaguchi be re-hired, did you use your favorite characters in the games or replace them with the more powerful character, and whether or not the DLC for FF13-2 is a good thing or a bad thing.

The show rounds up with a great remix from FF7 and make sure you stick around to the end for the first bloopers of 2012. Get psyched, the new year of FFU is here! Final Fantasy Union is part of the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts Union podcast channel on Gaming Union/iTunes and releases an episode of FFU every four weeks.

Final Fantasy Union: Episode 60

Type-0FFXIVPS3X360PSP by Darryl

We are back with another fun episode of Final Fantasy Union with lots of news and questions. Darryl is joined by Colin and Lauren and they jump straight into the news from FF including FF13-2’s announced DLC, the European pre-order bonuses for FF13-2, and the new release dates and versions for FF14.

After the trio rants about how asinine FF14’s release dates are, they move into the burning question seamlessly which is “will you ever play Final Fantasy 14.” The answers are quite varied and may surprise you. After going through your responses, they transition into your questions. This week, the group covers three: what our younger selves would think about the current FF titles, why people want remakes of FF titles but then complain when they’re not getting new games, and how well with the FF10 HD remake sell.

And when they’re done talking about FF10, the show rounds out with a great remix from FF10. This show is positively full of craziness and fun, so don’t miss out! Final Fantasy Union is part of the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts Union podcast channel on Gaming Union/iTunes and releases an episode of FFU every three weeks.
