Final Fantasy XIV Overhaul Dubbed 'A Realm Reborn'

We've known that Final Fantasy XIV was due to re-launch for quite some time, after Square Enix proudly announced they were working on version 2.0 of their latest MMO. However, the game's producer/director has now made it seem much more grandiose.

Naoki Yoshida has claimed that the release of Version 2.0, which is now being dubbed Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, should be thought of as "the latest title in the Final Fantasy series".

There's still no word on when we'll actually see the next iteration of the game, with the latest trailer simply stating it would be "coming soon", but the PS3 version is due to launch in Q1 2013.

Final Fantasy XIV has had all kinds of problems since its launch, which recently lead to a huge upheaval of the game's main staff. The biggest change of which was replacing the game's director, Hiromichi Tanaka, with Naoki Yoshida.

Yoshida has already expressed his interest in revitalising the game, and his recent quotes in an interview with 4gamer show just how much he wants to achieve.

The topic of Final Fantasy VII came up, and he said he wants to attempt to allow Final Fantasy XIV to have the same memorable and lasting impact.

Currently it's probably having that effect already, just not for the right reasons.
