After what feels like ages, Tetsuya Nomura mentions some words on Final Fantasy Versus XIII in an interview with GameInformer. However, it may not be the words that you'd want to hear.
Although the interview was primarily about Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, GameInformer was able to sneak in a question, inquiring about Final Fantasy Versus XIII's progress. Nomura responded to the question with the following message: “We would like to ask for your patience on an official announcement for this title. It always takes time when tackling the challenge of doing something completely new, but we are doing our best to bring information to the fans as quickly as we can. Your patience is greatly appreciated.”
Believe it or not but next week marks the the sixth anniversary of Final Fantasy Versus XIII's announcement at E3 2006. So the question is, what's your response to Nomura's request? How long do you think it will take till this game awakes from its dormant state? Be sure to post your responses below. Also don't forget to answer this week's burning question that's related to the matter, will Square Enix announce Final Fantasy XV before Final Fantasy Versus XIII is released?
Phew, it's certainly been a month where very little has happened from a Final Fantasy perspective. What are Square Enix playing at?
With that in mind, we've started to look a bit more to the future. We've still heard nothing about a Western release for Final Fantasy Type-0, and everything is all quiet on Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
So, with that in mind we want to know your thoughts on the following matter. Do you think Square Enix will announce Final Fantasy XV before Final Fantasy Versus XIII is released?
Japanese publication Famitsu recently interviewed Tetsuya Nomura, who revealed some elegantly sparse details concerning the projects under Square Enix's 1st Production Department wing, including Final Fantasy Versus XIII and the Final Fantasy X HD remake.
Now that Final Fantasy Type-0 is out of the way, Square Enix will be focussing a bit more on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, or so we've been told. Nomura may well have disappeared back into his magical cave of mystery after all.
With that in mind, we want to ask you guys the following question: When do you think we will see Final Fantasy Versus XIII released?. Of course, there's no correct answer to this, it's just a nice little guessing game.
The optimistic amongst us might think it'll appear in 2012, but there may also be an appearance in 2013 or later! Tell us what you think and of course, let us know why you think it.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura candidly mentioned the elusive action RPG in an interview conducted by Dengeki PlayStation, saying it'll finally be Versus' turn once Final Fantasy Type-0 is released in Japan.
Nomura and his team have been quite silent regarding the development of the highly anticipated title, revealing bits and bobs of information exclusively to the Japanese media. Only recently did we learn details of Versus entering full production and the technology it employs.
Nomura expressed his excitement over the matter, although he also said he won't feel a sense of completion in regards to Type-0's development until the game is in the hands of players.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII may not have made an appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2011 this year, but thankfully that doesn't prevent us from receiving any updates. Famitsu recently conducted an interview with director and designer Tetsuya Noruma, who talked a little bit about the game's engine and new lighting system.
Nomura stated that he recently did a walkthrough of the full world map, checking up on the game's dungeons and town side paths. He mentions being impressed about the expansiveness of the whole game.
The main focus of the interview, however, is the use of Visual Works' new Luminous Engine (Visual Works is an internal studio responsible for CGI work done for Square Enix games), an all-purpose toolkit designed for multi-platform development. Nomura explained that the Luminous Engine is quite capable of some very impressive lighting and it fits with the team's aim for a more photorealistic game.
With that said, Versus XIII is only incorporating Luminous' lighting engine. Nomura notes that Versus XIII has its own action oriented engine, which has its strong points, but coupled together with Luminous and you can expect some impressive tech.
Nomura ends the interview by promising fans a "Final Fantasy like you've never seen before." Recently, Square Enix did state that Final Fantasy Versus XIII entered into full production. So hopefully in due time, after the Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Final Fantasy Type-0 releases, we may hear some more news soon.
As mentioned earlier last week, Famitsu have a feature with Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura on Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The last we heard and saw of the game was earlier in the year at Square Enix's 1st Production Department Premiere Event.
In the interview, Nomura talked about a number of things, including the new lighting engine, controllable cut-scenes and a new batch of screenshots. Nomura mentions something about taking inspiration from popular first person shooters in regards to cut-scenes where they do not break the flow of gameplay. Cut-scenes can also be controlled. How? Nomura doesn't say exactly, but you can imagine by taking a page out of the Metal Gear games.
Speaking of cut-scenes, previous Final Fantasies have mixed between pre-rendered and real-time events. These real-time events used models with a higher poly-count compared to the actual in-game models, but with Versus XIII, they have "unified" the models, with the only real difference in quality being the hair. Takeshi Nozue is also on staff to help with the visuals, specifically the lighting.
Nomura also showed Famitsu three new screenshots, which will not be shown to the public, and the editors were pretty amazed by the graphical quality of them, to the point of even doubting that the screenshots were taken in real-time. One screenshot showed off an area which looked like an arcade, the other two screenshots were of Noctis in a city at different times, one at noon and one at night.
Voice acting is also being done with Noctis and his buddies actually recording simultaneously during one session in order to get the effect of a realistic conversation taking place.
Other titbits include a dynamic battle system that will change things up to keep the gameplay fresh – that's as obscure a description as any – and that players will be able to snap photos whenever during the game with Noctis' phone, of which there'll be a real-world counterpart not unlike the Advent Children FOMA that was released alongside the movie.
Nomura wouldn't say when he'll be able to share more information, but apologizes to fans for making them wait so long. The next update is said to be for more substantial.
Howdy folks and welcome to the first ever TweetView. Every so often we'll ask questions on our Twitter account @ffunion, and we'll take a little bit of an analysis about the different answers we receive. After all, opinions are the lifeblood of the world!
For this week's TweetView, we asked people whether or not they thought they'd be seeing Final Fantasy Versus XIII at this year's E3. The response was a mixed one, with some people thinking yes, some thinking no, and some opting to go with the middle-ground.
